It's, uh, Spike Brewing, and they make everything from home brew stuff up to small batch stuff. What is it, 10- Uh, up to nano, which is one size sm- smaller than a- Micro... yeah, micro. Yeah.

Too many, too many different- 50 gallon batch kits-... kinds of brew-... and things like that... right on. Yeah. Subtly, I mean- Sorry, I'm interjecting 'cause I, of course, used to work there too. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.

They, they're right down the street, not far away, m- even closer to the new shop. Yeah. Um, and, uh, Keith welds on stainless a lot, a lot, and we've been talking about maybe doing some bike projects, so.

Yeah, a lot of stainless steel, but I mean, mainly all tube, and we're looking at a bunch of tubes. A lot to do. Yeah, pretty much. Some of them are bent, some of them are straight.

Sh- Shannon, what's happening? Not much. Uh, actually sitting in the garage and wiping down my bike finally- How you feeling?... after this weekend's shenanigans. You were at the b- Fat Bike Birkie, I take it? Yes, sir.

Uh, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then, uh, we, uh, slowly stumbled home Sunday- Nice... after a night of shenanigans at the Moccasin. Nice. So what was the event like this year?

I know it's, uh, not like the traditional mass start and a few other changes, but what was the, uh, what was the event like, conditions, et cetera? The conditions were actually fabulous.

I was a little worried about them. Um, they, they actually had a pretty good base. Uh, they groomed Thursday night and Friday we went out and pre-rode early, uh, and it was... fast, like a highway, man.

It was just absolutely perfect. Uh, there were a couple open spots of, uh, dirt and mud where the sun was shining in, and then they were doing some logging- Nice... just before double O.

Um, that you could see some dirt, but really didn't affect much of it. And then during the race, they started us an hour early, and it didn't get real sloppy or mashed potatoes till really the, the last maybe 20 minutes.

I'm sure all the pros that were under two hours had it just fine. [laughs] Yeah, when- But sunshine, nice, nice temps. You didn't have to overdress. Um, it, it was absolutely great, and, and the way they handled it with,

with, uh, the starts and 50 people per gate, um, I was in wave three, so it was 8, 8:10, but it, it worked out great. You know, nobody was really hanging out.

Everyone just grabbed their sack lunch afterwards and their beer and headed back to their cars or wherever, and everyone had to wear a mask in the gates and when you got back and grabbed everything, so.

Sounds- They handled it great. And it was awesome just being back- Yeah, it, it sounds like they, you know, they learned a lot from doing the, the ski event and I think, um, made some good choices, and

Yeah, we're basically- So the conditions and- I think our year anniversary here was, uh, just a couple days ago. Yeah. The 16th was our year anniversary in Milwaukee. I don't know how the rest of the state did, but

been, it's been a solid year of, uh, being careful. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's, uh... If we're slowly getting back into, quote unquote, what's gonna be normalcy or, you know- All right...

it was nice getting there, you know, one step forward. It, it just felt good. It, it made you happy to- Right. Felt a little normal... to be able to at least get a little bit. Right on. Yeah.

What was your race rig this year? Well, it's, uh, oh, it's my Trek Farley. Nice. Trek Farley, and I'm sitting on 26-inch carbon dirt thumpers with, uh,

Van Helgas, which is my tire choice pretty much year-round, and they got the tan walls. No studs necessary? No studs. I was running about five, five and a half in the front, six in the back. Wow.

And I probably could've actually given a little bit more air. It, it, it literally held up until, like, the last 20 minutes for me. I was at two hours and 20 minutes, two hours 30 minutes,

and it just started to get to mashed po- mashed potatoes at the end, especially on some of the bigger hills at the end. Yeah. Well, it's, that's, uh, a good time there. I'm glad you had a, had a decent event.

And, uh, what, where'd you stay? We stayed at the Telemark, which- Nice... is awesome because you could just ride all the trails, and you can ride to the start. You can

ride back to the Telemark after you finish, go get cleaned up, have a, have a beer or three.

That, that place has always in, been interesting 'cause I've been going up there since m- probably the early '90s, late '80s, early '90s, and sometimes it's open, sometimes it's not.

Sometimes it's a little overlook hotel-y, you know? You're like- [laughs]... "Is this the Shannon up here?" I, I'm- They're about to drop it. [laughs] So what, what- They're about to level it.

And then someone jumped in, right? I think there's a bunch of different stuff going on up there. Yeah. I think they're, they're keeping the condo area, right? Yeah, that's where we stay. We stay in one of the condos.

Oh, okay. Okay, so the actual, the h- The ho- the hotel... What's that? The b- the big hotel is the one they're razing, right? That's the one that's about to get demolished- Oh... it looked like. That's too bad.

I, I mean, the vision for that up there, you know, so far north to have something really cool like that right by an airport, golf course, all sorts of other stuff to do up there, but- It's too nasty...

obviously it was there for the- Yeah, and that's the whole-... the Birkie really. Yeah, in Chequamegon, that was the finish line. Many a naked criterium were run in that little bowl right by those condos.

I'm registered for if they go on, and that's, uh, Iceman in November, and, uh, Lutsen 99er, I'm gonna try that for the first time ever. Is that 99K or 99 MI?

Uh, supposedly it's 99 miles, and last year was actually over 100 from what I hear. Wow. Lutsen is in Michigan? So figure I give that- Is that over there in Michigan somewhere? Yeah. No, up in, uh, Minnesota.

Oh, Minnesota. Oh, that's right. Oh, yeah. There's a ski mountain there. Yeah. Yeah, you can go up- Lutsen... you can go all Fargo up in there. Yeah, we, we, uh- Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Uh, kinda when it was really nice out I got the bug, so that sort of kept going here now that it's back to chill weather again. But, um, it was a little bit of a...

I would s- I would call it a disappointing winter for me because- Yeah... we really didn't have any frozen lake to ride until- Later in maybe- February...

late February Oh, yeah And we got maybe two weeks of messing around up there, and then it was gone again. And I was up there last weekend, I think, checking out the beach, and there's no beach ex- again.

the, the ability to ride on the frozen, you know, shoreline was awesome, but we, I only did it maybe four times, and that was not enough because that's- And that was inside of, like, a week, right?

[laughs] Yeah, I guess. I mostly did it in a week, yeah. Kept going up there- Man, like, sure can. It's gonna be-... and like, "Well, the conditions are good." It's gonna be, like, 60 this weekend out there- Yeah...

the urban assault riding has been really good, and it's just, it's nice to be able to be outside at places instead of having to, you know, worry about masking up and going indoors somewhere.

Yeah, we did a Saint practice day last Saturday, which was, you know, uh, close to Dave Lunza's bike's birthday, which [laughs] I'll have a picture of it.

He got it re- [laughs] He got it repaired with, with a, a, an alleged weld. Uh-huh. It looks okay. It looks okay. [laughs] And it held together for the entire ride- Yeah, I've been fol-... which is good.

It was- Been see-... thinking about that... I've seen some of the progress of that on his Instagram. [laughs] Yeah, well, he's been kind of, he's been laid off, so he's had all sorts of stuff.

I saw him out with the, uh, the, the portable, uh, bandsaw doing a little pedal work. [laughs] I, I saw.

You know, if, if he's listening, he should call in because his story about how that XT derailleur just, he couldn't get it off, so he just hammered on it really hard with a j- a PB Blaster and a rubber mallet and it started to work again, so he just decided [laughs] to leave it and use it.

[laughs] PB Blaster's pretty good. I, it, uh, I'm really happy with stuff called Kroil. Kroil. That stuff's the best. It does seem to be better at penetrating than just about anything else out there oil-wise.
