[upbeat rock music] Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh.
0:17
[laughs] Aha. Right off the bat with these guys. Aha. Hey, Full Spectrum's cycling number 105 today. And 105 and feeling alive. And I'm going with 40th anniversary MSC still again this, this week as well.
0:34
Yeah, it's- Oh, yeah... still gonna be intense... 'cause it- there's still, there's still chattery about it- Well, it's, yeah... and talking and whatnot. And it's like, yeah, it's like birthday month, you know?
0:41
My regulated one day, all month. Damn it. Th- thank you for permission to worship at the altar of- Ah, yeah... WMSC.
0:52
[laughs] Oh, my gosh, so this is like a who's who of where's what in Milwaukee cycling right here in the studio today. We already know what the why is. We got, well, not in his usual position. Yeah.
1:05
Maybe I'm gonna go, uh, counterclock- no, I'm gonna go clockwise this time. Shit. Tony's anchoring his normal position directly across from me. Thank you very much. That's right. Tony Burger, everybody. That's right.
1:14
Ladies and gentlemen, there's Tony Burger over there. Hello. I might've smoked the pen before, so this may be a little different show than you're used to, ladies and gentlemen. Are you sure? It's very full spectrum.
1:27
[laughs] Yes, we... Well, of course it is. It is not an isolate or any of those other things. We changed the coloring position of the spectrum. Right on. Yeah, you're purple, dude. Am I? Well, your head is. Purple.
1:39
[laughs] Oh, it is. Yeah, I kinda, I forgot. Across- R, mighty... my, my foil across from me today instead of to my right is, uh, well, I guess a whatever, JK. Look into my eye. [laughs] Yeah.
1:54
JK, what happened to your hand? Did your cat get ahold of that thing or what? Yes. [laughs] Cat scratch fever. Oh, you're not k- Yeah... dude, I go through a lot of isopropyl alcohol [laughs] in the spray bottle.
2:06
[laughs] You got mauled, man. That's, that's hideous. Yes, this is the, the hazards of working- Continuing-... from home... our tour around the table, still sticking with the letter J, ladies and gentlemen, Mr.
2:16
John Trusky. Hello, all you good people. I hope you're doing well tonight.
2:21
So JT and I are talking about ramping up a little bit of a local production run of the Schlick Shark from the olden times that has now become an electric genius ride. So Sam, Sam, Sam D., next guy in line.
2:36
He took it for a ride today. I dunno. Tell them what you think of the thing. [laughs] I really enjoyed the bike. [laughs] That's an understa- those bikes are incredible. Electric child on bed fun.
2:46
[laughs] I, I will admit we should probably get a shorter fork on there. I think that'll just make it what it was kinda designed around. But still, it is so fun.
2:55
[laughs] And, uh, yeah, we'll keep everybody up to date on that, I imagine. And who's next in line? Sven. Ah, there he is. West Side Sven's next, yeah. Who, yes, he's next in line. It is me. Thank you.
3:07
And who is next clockwise again? I don't know. I don't know. Tony Burger again? Okay. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] I'm all confused. [laughs] His hair is, his hair is curling counterclockwise.
3:17
I don't know if you can see it, but- The swirl. Oh, yes, it does have a, uh- Swirl... yeah- Looks like he just stuck-... far-... your head-... head little swirl... in an Australian- Far, actually-... privy...
3:26
it would be the Superman swirl Going through my, going through my Greg Brady hair phase, okay? Come on. Oh, geez. For fuck's sake. Somebody- You know? I can't believe- Seven, seven months in. All right.
3:34
Seven months out of my three-year cut, so. All right, I can't, I can't... I dunno. Somebody, you know, whatever. [mumbles] I dunno. Hey, hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Hello?
3:47
[laughs] Anybody there? Hello. [laughs] It's my, it's my new, it's my new voice since I hit my head. Oh. Oh. Yeah. You hit your head too. Well, this is, this is actually why we're talking.
3:58
Okay, so- Oh, still a little soft? Well- Soft scrambled? [laughs] Uh, that's, that's, that's, that's Ron Chewy Moffitt on the phone there, ladies and gentlemen, just in case you couldn't tell by the chuckle.
4:09
But, uh, yeah, I was, I, I think, was it after the show last week I got those, or was it, uh, during it or something? But Ron shared some pictures of a, an argument he had with a crack in the pavement.
4:21
Do tell- Who knows what... from your side of the [laughs] story because, yeah, I, I- So, all right. It was, it was, uh, it's a, it's a, uh, it's a horribly long story, and it's COVID related on top of everything else.
4:35
Um, um- Do you think you can keep it straight all the way through-... I was on my-... or are we gonna lose you halfway through this? What? I mean, come on, you got it- No [laughs]... nailed down or what? We, we like...
4:43
Oh, yeah. No, no, I got this all figured out [laughs] if I can remember it. No, it, I was literally sober on my bicycle riding into the hockey rink to sharpen skates for a game the next day.
4:54
That, um, never happened because of COVID. Um, so I'll make that part short and sweet. But my wife had told me the day before that it was really odd that they were cleaning out, you know, on the shoulder of our road.
5:07
It's a paved road, and then there's a shoulder of four-foot width tar. And, uh, they had been filling a crack, so I left about dusk, and I was riding along. In fact, I did have a headlight on.
5:17
And I'm riding along, and I got to the bridge. So then normally just ride around the big bump, and when I went to ride around the big bump, all of a sudden my tire was going straight, and I thought I hit some sand.
5:27
And I got up. I was like, "God, that was a horrible crash." My shoulder hurt. I straightened out my handlebars. I rode back into town. I sharpened five pair of skates.
5:35
That hurt like hell, so I went and had a few beers and- [laughs]... went home. Well, of course.
5:40
[laughs] And, and as I'm standing at, as I'm standing at the, at the, uh, at the bar, the, the, uh, the, one of my friends walks up behind me and goes, "What the fuck did you do?" And my shoulder has, um...
5:52
So I have an AC joint separation, and it's a p- and they call it a shelf, and it looked like my shoulder turned into a shelf. [laughs] It was a- Whoa... it was a shoulder... And, and- Well, I don't know.
6:05
I'm not sure who's standing around this table hasn't had some upper body traumatization, you know, rotator cuff, collar bone- Clavicle... clavicle. Clavicle. Hi. Mr. Trusty. [laughs] You're just joining the club, man.
6:17
This, is this the first time this happened or no? This is, this is my first time.
6:21
I, the, the most I've ever done, uh, well, you know, plenty of dirt rash, road rash and stupid stuff, but like broken fingers maybe like that, that's... I've never... No, I've never done,
6:34
um, anything like this on a b- on, especially on a bicycle. Uh, on, I, we had a good spill on a motorcycle one time, but that was, again, more road rash than anything else. But no, I've never, I've never like,
6:48
in all the years of crashing mountain bike racing- [laughs] And I- You could have just left off mountain bike racing and just say, "In all the years of crashing." [laughs] Yeah.
6:57
Well, that's true too, but it's, it's, uh... Come to think about it, though, I, wait, I gotta take that back. Uh, first Santa Rampage was two ribs. Ah. Oh. Up there at, i- your first one in Rochester? Yeah.
7:10
Had- Yeah, the first one in Rochester when we got the eight inches of snow, I went to avoid the spot that a girl went down and I found a different spot, and I wound up landing against a, uh, one of the, uh, light poles with the big bolts on it.
7:21
Oh. And one of the big bolts decided to hit me in the ribs. Oh, man. Ooh. Ouch. That hurts just thinking about it. I guess I, I guess I have had one other one. [laughs] Yeah.
7:28
I, I, I was gu- I was, I was guessing it was the handlebar- Oh, God... jam, jammer. Like [laughs] No, that, that's when one went through Dave Lunz's leg- Oh...
7:36
'cause he didn't have a plug in the end of the handlebar and it- Oh... pl- did like a core sample on his thigh. [laughs] It's like...
7:42
That was a July 3rd event, which I know because that's right around my birthday time there. Do you remember the...
7:48
I think it was a board series race, or m- maybe it was, maybe it was point series race when, when, um, Crank Brothers first came out with their carbon fiber or... No, was it titanium?
7:58
Maybe it was titanium pedals, and they s- they were so light they'd snap, and then that jagged edge that was in your, was in, that broke off, your pedal broke off, that jagged edge always went into everybody's calf when you crashed.
8:09
Oh. Oh, God. No, but- Oh, that was, there was like, there was like a piece of them. Ow, that hurts too. That hurts me. That hurts me to my core. All right, so go on.
8:18
So, so then, so the next day [laughs] So, okay, now we're back to the COVID ca- case. Our, uh, our hockey team got shut down, uh, that, well, it started on Friday, um, and it's a really long story.
8:30
And, and sometime I'll, I'll... Um, I think actually, if you guys don't mind, I think I'm gonna save the whole story about that to, um, my buddy, Brad Burgie, that he's gonna start doing a podcast with me.
8:40
Um, his team got shut down for the same thing. It wa- it turned into a giant mess here in Southern Minnesota about, about the time this happened, so a couple weeks ago.
8:47
And anyway, um, so our game got canceled and our season got canceled. And so all his head coaches are going, "Jesus, what are we gonna do now? We're, we're, here we are planning for a game and now we got nothing."
8:59
And, uh, so we decided to go out drinking, so I jumped on the Big Fat Dummy and I rode into town. And, and that's...
9:05
I, I don't know if it's in the picture of that, but I have a picture of my Big Fat Dummy tire next to the hole where it was. Yeah. Yeah, I saw it.
9:09
So yeah, like, they just cleaned that spot out 'cause they're gonna fill it with something be- because it was decaying, and you just got caught in the middle- Yeah, it, it looked like-...
9:17
of the cleanup effort before they actually applied the finished product. And it, and it looks like they're just pouring, they're just pouring liquid tar in it.
9:24
They're not even filling it with tar because it's like, I'm not kidding you, it's like three, four inches wide and about the same in depth. I mean, it's not a little crack.
9:33
And, you know, a, my, I, my five-inch tire would've gone in there. My mountain bike tire might've got caught, but I probably would've survived. But them fucking skinny tires- [laughs] There you go...
9:42
would've been very tight. Hey, you know better. [laughs] I do best, yeah. [laughs] Well, I, I don't know. I think- So anyway. Yeah.
9:49
I, we did manage, I did manage to go out and get drunk at night on, on my, uh, Big Fat Dummy, and, uh, I actually probably give my, my, my hockey head coach a ride partway home on it.
10:00
And, and, uh, and then the next day my wife looked at it and said, "Um, you might wanna send a note to your doctor." And then he...
10:08
And then, so I, I did mention to him right away, though, that, you know, I sent him a picture of my shoulder and said, "This doesn't look like an, uh, an AC joint separation to you. And by the way, my bicycle's okay."
10:18
[laughs] And in big letters, please stop, big letters, "Uh, please stop riding your bike." [laughs] Well, if you were riding the Big Fat Dummy it probably wouldn't happen in the first place. Yeah. Yeah.
10:30
So just take this as a lesson and- Oh, absolutely... ride that fucking thing all over the place. Well, that's what's gonna happen for a while now. Oh, you guys haven't heard the other news, have you? I don't...
10:40
Until we hear it, I, I couldn't tell you. [laughs] Oh. Well, t-... Yeah. The, the Friday before that, I had my Moonlander stolen. No. What? What? Yes. Yeah.
10:52
I, we, we, uh, Brothers know things are opening up here, so Brothers had a tap takeover, and I rode it down there because it's my commuter bike of sorts.
11:02
And, um, I, there's nothing to lock your bike to, but we've been parking bikes in front of there and just locking the wheels up for
11:11
as long as we've been doing Tuesday night rides, 15 years I'd say, probably even longer than that as far as I know, but... And nobody's ever had a problem. And,
11:19
uh, I was inside and w- we were getting ready to leave, and I walked outside and my bike was gone. I'm thinking, "All right, who's this far?" So I had a cable- [laughs]...
11:26
through the rear wheel and then through the frame. So whoever's gonna pick it up, heavy bastard up, has got a ways to go with it, right? And no, it was...
11:35
And a guy walked out behind me and goes, he could tell I was looking, like, weird and he goes, "Uh, was that your bike that was sitting out here?" And I go, "Yeah."
11:41
He goes, "Oh, it was, it was here at 8:30," and this was 9:30. So within that hour span somebody walked off with it. So I have to leave, not in sight of it yet.
11:49
Did they put it into the back of a pickup or run down the street with it or...
11:53
[laughs] We, so we, I jumped in a buddy's car and we drove around a little bit to all the usual steal a bike to part it out stuff, you know, and I never found the cable lock cut off- I never found, you know, parts laying around.
12:07
And I, I just thought they'd get sick of carrying it, show up some place. And all the usual spots, nothing. Sue and I got up the next morning and
12:14
grabbed some coffee and drove around downtown Rochester and all the other haunts that would, you know, in that area. Um, we had a maybe sighting in a meth head trailer park north of town, but- [laughs]...
12:25
three or four of us just drove through there and didn't see anything, so I, it's- Well, it's, uh- It's gone... wait, was it a, was it a Midnight Sparkle or whatever they called it, a black one? No. No, no.
12:37
This was, this was a pink one. This was a crap prototype frame that I got from Tanner. Ah. So it's- A pink Moonliner, well, that shouldn't be too hard to find... pink.
12:47
Well, and it's rusty because, you know, it was just spray-painted pink and there was no, um- Well, it, it was-... it was one of the, it's got the wrong dropouts on it. It's just that, it's just, it was a prototype frame.
12:56
I was also gonna say, it's spray-painted something else now. I mean- Well, but- Yeah. Oh, yeah. [laughs] I mean- It's not gonna be- I mean, I'm not going too deep in the criminal mind there, but it's, yeah...
13:04
it's not gonna be an easy bike to own if, if, if it's a prototype and it's, you know, got, uh, who knows what parts they threw at it just to make it- It's just probably sitting somewhere where they're just, like, stroking their beards like evil henchmen going like, "And how do we get through this?"
13:17
Jesus. Well, it, it, it's, it, seriously it's been my commuter bike for a while in the winter, so it's got, um, you know, the, the, the stuff we call it, the pre-storm stuff they put down. So everything is rusted on it.
13:29
You're gonna have to cut the crank arms off of it. Mm-hmm. Yeah. There's no way the pink pedals are coming off of it. The Bianchi, the, the Celeste Bianchi seat is so rusted, the seat post is gonna break any day now.
13:39
[laughs] So it, [laughs] the wheels are w- the wheels are the only thing that are worth anything, and they're an offset set because that's an original and nobody does that anymore. All right. Yeah, for sure.
13:48
So the whole thing, when you think about it, is worthless. Well, I mean, everybody- It'll still-... keep your eyes out for a t- semi spray-painted pink freaking Moonlander in the greater United States area. Yeah.
14:02
The lower 48. The lower 48 probably. I don't know if any... Well, you know. Well, don't- I can just see a, I could s- It just sounds cost-prohibitive to- I could see a-... ship it up there...
14:09
gang of brigands running across the country in their big tractor trailers and lifting bikes and taking them to Alaska- And the po-... where- The polite, yeah, and the po-... they can't get fat bikes right now, so...
14:19
yeah, and you have to go through the polite mounties to get there, so. Can I, can I sidetrack onto something crazy stolen story and just- Did we sidetrack? Not yet, enough?
14:26
[laughs] I'm gonna open this four-pack of beers- Yeah... and pass them out, so yeah, go ahead. Yeah, do that. The story that was in the, on the news this week about the Ferrari F50 that's, was stolen, like,
14:38
28 years ago and has been in, like, eight different [laughs] countries and was sold to a guy in America from a guy in Canada.
14:49
And when it was coming into US inspection, they noticed that there was some black ooze around the VIN number, and realized that it was not, that it was a replaced VIN number.
15:00
And now there's this big battle to find out if the two brothers and father that bought it used and owned it for a month and a half before it disappeared 28 years ago own it, because the insurance company never paid them off.
15:13
All right. Or if the guy sold it. I gotta stop you here in the middle of this story- Yeah... and tell you that, you know, when you say VIN number, why are you saying number number? I know. [laughs] Yeah, boy.
15:25
[laughs] That's what I heard walking- Yeah. Oh, wait. Shit. Oh, shit. Okay. Top- Well, we can- Top of the hill. Oh. I, I guess, get... God, I need my prop here, damn it. Props. [bell rings] Places, people.
15:37
Top of the hill, ladies and gentlemen. Hey, I forgot that, uh, Mr. M&M is up there now. Look at that guy. Mr. Potato Head. The, the blue M&M. Mr. Are you feeling hungry? Chocolate Potato Head.
15:49
So I have no idea what this beer is like, but we're gonna find out. It is called Billy Ray Citrus. Yeah. We're gonna boot scoot all over this. What is that? Just try that out, too, JT.
16:00
Is it, I don't know, it's Eagle Park Brewing. Sounds good. I don't know that I've had anything. I was looking on their website. Oh. They got about a one bazillion kinds of beer.
16:08
And- Is that the one that's over by- And I'll tell you why they've got a bazillion fucking kinds of beer, 'cause while this is a hazy India pale ale, it does have grapefruit and tangerine as well. No apricot?
16:20
With mosaic and citrus hops, so. I want the apricot. Yeah. No apricot? It wasn't favorable if I'm- What?... uh, I'm re- not recalling- Is this the one-... am I recalling correctly? I don't know...
16:33
is this the one by the swing park? Yeah. Okay. They've got no COVID responsibilities. They're horrible. The place is just packed full of people. [laughs] No one's got a mask on. It drove me [laughs] fucking nuts.
16:43
I'm like, and it was before I was vaccinated. What about the bre- what, what about the bre- Wow... what about the brewery? There is quite a- The employees?... tangeriney finish on that, isn't there? Yeah. Holy cow.
16:52
The ones that- Yeah... can the beer? Um, I'm not a- [laughs] I'm not like I would ever drink this beer again. That's the one that works there. I'm like, yeah. That's k- kind of how I am about it.
17:01
It's not horrible, but I wouldn't go out of my way to drink it. Well, it's m- in between, like, an IPA and a sour, and I like sours, so. So are you grooving on it? Yeah, I like it. Well, then you can have my beer.
17:11
It's kind of a summer breakfast beer. Yeah. If you're out there- Yeah... having brunch. And it does- You're, you're having-... have a mimosa look... you're having your Nicoise salad- Or beer mosa look...
17:18
this would be a- Yeah, it sort of does... a decent thing to go with your Nicoise salad. I, um, no, I, the sour sounds really good though. But I have a Shiner, uh, Candied Pecan, and it's nothing to write home about.
17:34
Is that a sundae or a beer? It's a beer. [laughs] It's, it's, it's a, it's an old Shiner Bock. It sounds like, "Oh, I just went to- Yeah, yeah. Anytime they, yeah. I know, yeah...
17:41
I just went to the local Dairy Queen and got this freaking- This is, this is-... pecan whatever, whatever." It's like- You poured a beer over the top... right?
17:47
Any time I hear Shiner- This is my wife, this is my wife walking into Fairway. [laughs] This is my, this is my wife walking into Fairway to buy me beer, and then she comes back and goes, "What are you... I saw you...
17:55
Deke likes Shiner. It's about the only thing he can taste anymore, so he drinks a lot of Shiner Bock." And she thought maybe he'd like this. I'm going, "Mm, no, I don't think so." [laughs] So- No...
18:04
I just, I just have this reference- But, but... in my head every time, like, every, oh, it was Kevin Smith Podcasters. I'm like, I'm like-
18:11
Oh, Jesus, you get a half a Shiner Bock in this guy and he just won't shut the hell up. [laughs] So any time I hear Shiner Bock, I go, "Is it-?" I- isn't it, is it, is it from Minnesota? Shiner Bock?
18:22
Yeah, I think it's from Texas, right? I think it's Texas. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, what's the guy from Minnesota- Yeah, it's from Texas... doing drinking a beer from Texas? What the fuck?
18:31
Because that's what my wife bought me. Green Belt? [laughs] Oh, I don't know about that. Oh, it's not. I like, I like me a Green Belt once in a while. Oh, hey. Yeah. Nothing wrong with Green Belt. It's so mustardy.
18:42
There's nothing, there's nothing wrong, there's nothing wrong with a pale yellow beer- What was the- Or no, peppery... in this law. Peppery. It's too peppery. There's nothing wrong with a pale yellow beer. Oh. Oh, yeah.
18:48
Hey, uh- I love Green- No... hey, Chewy, Chewy, what was the, the old, um, you know, basically tap beer special at, uh, in Decorah? Was it like... It's n- they don't have it anymore. Well, oh, at, at- Schmidt, I think.
19:00
Schmidt... at, at, at Schmidt, at T-Box, right? Yeah, T-Box. The bowl, the bowl of... Now it's, now they switched it with Pabst, but it, it used to be- Eh... a bowl of Schmidt that was a buck. Yeah.
19:10
And that was pretty decent beer. Yep. I don't know what happened to it. So was- Yeah, you- So was Huber... uh, it, it- Huber was floating around for a while True, true. Good, all good stuff. Right on. Sir. Yeah.
19:19
So- We ever had Boxer from- Boxer is delicious. However, it's also, like, running about 5.8. Yeah. So you have to just be a little bit mindful that this is a, it's a easy drinking beer.
19:29
That's the Noble's, that's the Noble's House Beer for a buck, buck 50. Yeah. Well worth it, with a nice thick steak and- All right, Chewy, did we get through your story yet? Are we at the, the finish line yet?
19:41
Or- Um, no, I, um- Homestretch... oh, yeah, I think. No, the punchline, the punchline is is that I'm leaving for Texas in the morning. [laughs] I, I am taking a bike down there, but I know nobody's gonna let me ride it.
19:52
Um, and I, I don't think I'd want to ride it down there, 'cause we're gonna be just in Austin and, uh, it's, uh, um, it's playground riding out there.
20:00
I mean, it's all rock piles and, uh, so I'm not gonna be riding it there. So they gotta let you again? And then I come back and I go see, uh... Oh, definitely. [laughs] Sorry, I couldn't resist.
20:11
Then we're gonna, then we're gonna, then I'm gonna come back and I'm, I'm actually still planning on going to, uh, Durango at the end of April. Um, whether I'll be riding it or not I'm not sure.
20:21
That would be very- I gotta release that movie one of these years. It, it's a movie called Fucking Durango, when Lunz and Ralph Henderson and I [laughs] went out there. Yeah. Oh, my God.
20:30
Yeah, you gotta tell them about that. What a shit show that turned into. [laughs] Yeah. Someday we'll get that- Beautiful country... transferred from VHS to, uh, digital. I love Durango. [laughs] It's a beautiful area.
20:40
[laughs] Silverton, that whole area up there. Yeah, it's good. Hey, Chewy, I got a question for you. You're, you're still doing a little, uh, Chewy's bike shop action there, right? Like repairing shit and whatnot? Yep.
20:51
Yeah. Electric bikes. Do you get, like- Oh, yeah... so if you order a lot of the newer SRAM derailleurs, I don't know about the older ones so much, you get this big square piece of foam.
20:59
It's like six by six inches square in every single one of them, and it's like, wow, I, you know, it, I don't wanna just throw it away 'cause it's a nice thing and, but I don't know what to do with it.
21:09
I'm like, what do you do with that black, you know, it's a half-inch thick s- foam thing? Toolbox. Cozy. Yeah, that's a good idea. It's in the rear... Oh. See. It's in the rear derailleur boxes?
21:22
Yeah, it's in the rear derailleur boxes. Cozy. And, and, and Sam just proved- Coaster?... it's not, uh, you can't wrap it around a can and make a cozy out of it- [laughs]...
21:28
'cause it's not, [laughs] it's not big enough. So the, you know. Oh, yeah. That w- eh, I don't know if I like that. He's just got his beer resting it now.
21:37
Well, no, but there, there has to be a use for the fucking things. That's for sure. If it had, if it, if it had weight. I think it's funny 'cause every computer- Right...
21:43
you ever build gives you 400 of those just so you know. Right. I know. Well, that's what I'm saying. Well, that's my point. But- But the computers are all irregular sizes, so trying to find- Right. Right...
21:52
a use for it is kind of like... Wonder if you could put it, like, as floor padding. Looks like it'd be neat for floor padding. Why... Well, the question I have is why are they putting derailleurs in bags?
22:00
Speak into the microphone, sir. [laughs] Speak directly into the flower. Yeah. If you're gonna look at Tony, have the microphone between you and Tony. [laughs] So all the computers give you all sorts of irregular sizes.
22:15
Yeah. This sucks. So that's not very useful. That's why you need a hot knife, and you just cut them into shapes you would like. [laughs] Just think what kind of nice flooring padding it would make. Yeah. I don't know.
22:26
I mean, a, a, a bike shop that, a good sized shop that's doing a lot of repairs- Acoustic ceiling... would, would get s- several hundred of those a year. Right. You know?
22:34
It's like, well, I mean, then it starts to be a pretty good sized thing. Like, I think four of them would be, like, a foot square probably. So you, man, we could line your floor with them.
22:43
Or you make like, like, a ball pit kinda thing. Well, you gotta go, take the balls right away, right? Well, like a ball house. You gotta, you gotta go there. But it'd be there. [laughs] A ball pit with edges.
22:51
Yes, exactly. With sharp edges. [laughs] This, yes. Throw, throw your children in here. [laughs] Can you use it to soundproof your podcast studio? Say it again? It's not even high. [laughs] Oh, hey. Yes.
23:02
You know, you could, you could soundproof your podcasting room with them. You could. Yeah. Totally. Yeah. Yeah. I, I, so y- what? He said that. [laughs] Acoustic tiles. Well, you gotta talk in the thing.
23:13
I can't hear you. Acoustic tiles. Yeah, you have to talk in the thing. It's like, like, you're yelling over there. You, I don't fucking know what you're saying. [laughs] I, now I, now I do, but, uh, anyway. Ah. I, yeah.
23:26
Well, first of all, I don't know what derailleurs are, so that's kind of a problem for me to start with. Ooh. [laughs] All right, mister. [laughs] I'm so confused.
23:34
I wanna know why they're, I wanna know why they're packing them like that. Is it because they're shipping direct? I, I, it does not make any sense.
23:40
They use a big plastic thing that holds the derailleur itself, which is massive, and then, um, the box is, you know, it's like seven or eight inches square with this thing inside of it.
23:52
But- It's like a default, like, okay, we're packing it up, throwing, you have to throw that in there. It's like a packing peanut, like a big ass packing peanut.
24:00
Yeah, but I don't know what it's protecting it from, and I don't know why they couldn't make the packaging much more efficient than it is. You're talking logic, and logic is absent from that. Image counts. Image counts.
24:08
Packaging makes image. Packaging makes image. Well, packaging, I think you, if you're trying to say that this is a retail product, yeah, I could see it on a shelf But you don't display a derailleur box on a shelf.
24:21
That's stupid. Well, but he's- [laughs] You know? But it, it takes up real estate, so if you had to- There's a hang tag. There's a little hang, a little hang tag so you can display it on a hook behind the counter. Yar.
24:36
I know, but why am I displaying a derailleur that nobody... No. I'm not putting their brand name up there. That shit's in the back room. [laughs] Some people care about it. [laughs] Some people care about this.
24:46
Some people care about this. Maybe- I can't help you beyond that. Some people care about this. Oh, come on. I know who they are. When you're replacing those SRAM rail, not one of those Sun Race jobbers, right?
24:55
Well, that- God dang it. [laughs] See that PDW wall over there? That looks, that's good branding. Look at that. All the same company, the packaging, except for that one outlier right there.
25:04
Yeah, it's, yeah, it's a one outlier there. [laughs] They're, they're all of a piece, but- I do like their products... yeah, I do see, see, that, but that's retail products.
25:11
That's not- At least the color combo matches... that's not repair product. Right. Anyway, I don't even know what we're talking about anymore. What are we talking about? Hey, this is Bike Shop Talk, folks.
25:18
Chewie brand loyalty. Bike Shop Talk with Chewie and JT. Have, have you guys, uh, gotten busy?
25:25
Um, I am still being a complete bitch about this and only doing stuff by appointment, uh, which I'm gonna continue for a while.
25:33
I'm, this, this, unless something changes, like John wants to run a bike shop or something, uh, I, this location is done at the end of, um, August, and we'll be in the new spot. So I'm not, like, I don't know.
25:46
I'm, this is gonna be solely focused on service this year. We, we did- For sure... we did put together an electric bike this week though, Chewie. Tony put together an electric bike this week. [laughs] The royal we.
25:56
But who gives a fuck? [laughs] The per- the person that bought it that's riding it now. And paid us to put it together, thank you very much. Yeah. And you had to do the labor on it?
26:06
That's- There's a lot of really dumb people out there... I need to get involved in that shop model. Hey, you can pay me to buy all this stuff.
26:12
I will give it all you, give you all the stuff, and then- Hair of the dog, hair of the, hair... and then you can put it all together yourself.
26:20
It's like, why, why is that- Well, it's like, it's like a, no, it's like a box that would've gone to a bike shop if they were a retail-er. It was, it was a very quick build But they just sent it direct to the consumer.
26:30
It actually came with the right tools. And, by gosh, yeah, dude, the tools were awesome. What'd you buy? I'm curious. It was a- I'm curious... um, the, the, it was, it's Cleon's first teacher.
26:41
That would be Cleon's first teacher. Kelly, um, sent me a message over the holidays saying, "Hey, I rode this electric bike. You gotta buy me one."
26:48
I'm like, "Uh, what did you ride so I have some sort of basis for-" Give me a frame of reference here. Yeah... and, and she rode this, I, I'm terrible with the, I can't even pronounce- Aventon or something? Aventon.
26:59
Oh, Aventon. Aventon- However you say it. Uh-... uh, 8350, which is a rear drive, 350 watt hub motor. They start off as a fixie company, making all the aluminum and- Blah, blah, fucking blah. [laughs] I was waiting.
27:13
I, shit, as soon as this went, the stopwatch hit. [laughs] I think I got to, like, 12 seconds. [laughs] And for the price point, it was a fine bike.
27:21
You- Hey, you can't, you can't get that kind of fun on any other semi-serious cycling podcast channel. [laughs] Absolutely. I kind of missed it because I don't have a headphone on, so, but give me some of the other ones.
27:30
Yeah, okay. Okay. Here's Mr. We... So we have five people in a four-person room here today, Chewie. We just, the, uh, you, you know how the, uh, the road works.
27:38
You, basically, you're kinda capped at four people that can realistically talk at one time- Oh, right. Yeah... over each other and all that shit. And I'm just kinda riding in the curb lane right at this point in time.
27:49
Yeah. Trust. [laughs] JT's taking over the microphone. Sam's stepping to the, uh, rear of the bus, thank you very much. In my shop, my shop, dude, there's o- in my shop, there's only room for three of us.
27:58
It's that small. So I did get an extra long cord. Anybody that shows up on a fucking e-bike, we make them sit out on the porch. Nice. [laughs] I'll be right there. Oh, that, yeah, that, that occurred.
28:07
I remember, I remember, uh, Zito and Luns. It's like, "Nope. Out. Outside." Oh, sure. "And you call and, like, listen to the show on phone." And that was funny as shit. You get the- That's a track.
28:19
[laughs] That was funny as shit.
28:22
Have, have Greg play you the first couple minutes of the, of the, the last podcast I sent him, and, uh, um, I did have a friend stop by the other day and ask if I would put an e-bike together for his wife that they had sent to them.
28:33
[laughs] Um, they just, they only get to a place up in the cities. And then he was thinking about buying a, a kit and putting it on his bike till I help him.
28:40
And then I played the first, I don't know, maybe three minutes of the podcast that I sent Greg, and listened to that, and he said, "Oh, never mind." [laughs] All right, dude. Well, here's- Come on.
28:53
You did not put together his bikes for him. Oh, fuck no. I'm not touching an electric bike. [laughs] Oh. I, I dicked around with that one kit from the back for a buddy of mine's girlfriend, uh, or his wife now, um, that
29:10
l- literally has a huge hill to ride up after a 12-hour shift, and she was standing in the sun in COVID, and I'm like, "All right, I'll put it together for you." And that was the most miserable thing I've ever...
29:19
Well, first, I'm putting it on an extra small, uh, mountain bike frame to start with, so that really hurt, and then it was just one freaking...
29:26
She sent it back, and they gave her money back after it did, where I put it together, and it literally went through two of the, I don't know, the bo- the boxes that all the power goes through. Controllers.
29:36
It went through those in two weeks and yeah. So it was, that end of that, she, she went out, she went out and bought one instead. 'Cause that, I don't know. Do you guys, is there, is there such a thing as a good kit?
29:46
Yes. Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. Yeah, there is. The one, the one we're using from, uh, from Gr- I don't believe in stuff like that... well, from Grin up in Canada. They do the hub motor itself, the controller- Hey...
29:58
the software. Uh, they do the whole system, and for what, what, like, Tony and I like, it's, it's cool. I think for the average user, it's a little intimidating on the user interface side of the situation. Yeah. Is it,
30:16
uh, do you guys recommend, um- Going strictly- Kind of feel like he's- Um-... leading us down some kind of path where we're gonna-... that's where the telepathic-...
30:24
trip over a fucking bear trap or something Um, he's talking. All right. I'm sorry. Um- I just think I'm being led down a- You guys understand that all...
30:31
You understand while I'm asking you all these questions, all they're doing is drawing pictures of dicks on this- Right. [laughs] You would. I know. Stop it. I know. [laughs] All right. Well, you know what?
30:40
You've managed to help us waste 30 minutes of our very, very precious listeners' time. Once again, Ron Chew, mavit. Uh- My, my pleasure... any, any parting thoughts? No. I'll try to get to town one of these days.
30:54
Sue's running low on popcorn. It's always a good time. Hey. Yeah, yeah. Nice. And it's, it's getting warmer. And, you, you know, it was, it was very favorable weather the last several days really. Yeah, yeah.
31:02
We- Which led to way too much Oberon, 'cause it Oberon tapping season here in- Oh, yes... Milwaukee. [laughs] So- Oh. Yes. Monday- Um- Well, yes. Tuesday was- Tues- All right. I'm out. Talk to you guys later...
31:11
Oberon hangover day. [laughs] Tuesday was also a drink Oberon day and turn off the hangover from Monday, so... [laughs] All right, Chewy. Hey, um, yeah, any time, come let us know. We are available and- Yeah...
31:23
ready to ride. I have, like, two weeks to go till I get my second poke. Tony's got his two pokes. You know, I mean, we're getting to be in pretty good shape here too, so.
31:34
It's, uh, you know, speaking to that, um, I was working in a power plant today and, uh, everybody's got the shots and nobody had masks on.
31:41
It was the, it was the strangest feeling I had working at, in a hospital area, um, since this whole thing started. I felt... I had mine on. I just, uh, just because- Yeah. You know, still working on it. Yeah.
31:52
It- [laughs] I, I don't know if I would agree with that Dude, I'm not taking- I'm overpopul- I'm not gonna be maskless for another calendar year. Yeah, I don't know why. Oh, yeah.
31:56
I mean, you know, at, at, at, at Consumer, uh, C- Consumer- Consumer...
32:00
at Consumer Electronics Show every year in Vegas that I work at, and NAB and a couple other bigger shows where there's a lot of Asian, um, attendees- Yeah, always wear masks... they all wear masks all the time. Yeah.
32:11
I mean, and that- I'll take my pins off then... and it's been that way since- Yeah... like eight years at least, since I've been going out to that show.
32:15
Well, I was just watching- We've shown what white people can bring to the world. [laughs] I've, uh- Why you gotta be like that?
32:21
I've got a friend, I got a friend that's on Vegas right now- 'Cause, because- It is about color with me. I know. Yes. And it's- I got a friend that's in Vegas right now- And it's the, uh-...
32:29
and he sent me pictures that they're- Infected rugs... they're socially distancing at the bars and stuff there. Well, I just think that the culture that they... First of all, they have a lot of pollution in China.
32:40
I mean, it's, you know, s- somewhat unsafe to breathe sometimes, so why not just wear a mask? But I, I, I always wondered whether
32:49
they were protecting themselves from some perceived virus threat from us or they were trying to protect us from their carrying something, you know? And, and- Track one... I don't think this- Track one...
33:02
I don't think this necessarily- They, they're a nation that have been th- through bird flu, swine flu, bird flu- Yeah, for sure. I know... bird flu variations- They-... so they understand the transmissibility on this.
33:11
Right on. And- We're-... m- m-... Americans have to learn it... somehow half our fucking country doesn't... for silly dreams. We're- I don't know. [laughs] We're, we're learning this now. So, Mr.
33:18
Sparkle- Well, I think, I think it's their overpopulation more than anything else. It's, it forces them into it.
33:22
I think, you know, even around here, the denser the population, the easier it is for people to accept it and wear the masks and everything else. As soon you get
33:31
into the more sparsely populated areas, those are the ones that are basically ignoring it. Mm-hmm. Yep. 10-4. I hear you- Yeah... good buddy.
33:41
Uh, Chewy- Well, once again, Ron, thank you very much for calling- All right... and making everyone's day just a little bit brighter. Feel better, brother. Anything I can do to help. Yeah. All right, man.
33:51
I'll talk to you guys later. And I may, I may post that picture of your shoulder too. [laughs] Oh, please do. You, you want the hairy picture? The hairy picture. Th- this sounds like a good idea, the hairy picture.
34:01
This sounds like a awesome idea. I'll send you, I'll send you that one in a minute. All right. [laughs] Okay, Ron. Thank you very much. [laughs] Later, bro. [upbeat music]
