Right on the river there. Yep. Uh, we've, we've currently just turned that into our, uh, off-road store, fat bike store. Um, so we got rid of all the road bikes, e-bikes, kids bikes, family bikes.

Um, opened up another store on the, uh, east side and put all the bikes there. So downtown is all the fun stuff. Well, I shouldn't say fun stuff, but all the off-road stuff and, um, yeah. Right on.

And do you still have a store in, uh- That's why... Manitowoc as well? Yep. And then we have a store in Manitowoc as well.

Yeah, I did get to take it out to Levis for a weekend and, uh, it was the first chance to really enjoy it on some pretty rough terrain, and it really handled really well.

And, uh, not really even used to a bike like that so much, so I can tell I've got a little bit to learn yet, but, uh, it really was fun as hell. Yeah.

Yeah, that, that bike is definitely a, a do-all Midwest bike, for sure. Sweet. So, uh, we, we got George on the show this week for a couple of reasons.

First off, you just had Global Fat Bike Day, Two Rivers chapter version last weekend.

Why don't you give us a little history on that, 'cause we've, we've been up to a few of those and they're, they're a, they're a blast and a lot of people show up to. How did it go this year?

Oh, this year couldn't have been better. Uh, we had good weather. We had a really great morning ride. And it seems like each year the morning ride really grows. You know, if you wanna come and see a lot of the park,

ride a lot of the beach, cover some mileage, um... I think we did about 18 miles on the fat bike, about a two-hour ride. Super chill, but y- we're still covering ground, so- Yeah...

yeah, a lot of people just- Super, super chill for George... did that. But they- Right. [laughs] You should see how big my eyes are, George. Oh. You're like, "Oh, yeah, this is, like, 18 miles on a fat bike? Okay."

Yeah, yeah. Awesome. [laughs] But I'm sorry, continue. But- No, it was fun... yeah, the beach was nice and frozen and... Yeah, this year the beach is back, so that was really cool.

Yeah, it's been that way down here- There you go... too, uh, near Port Washington. We've, we've got some beach back, which is good.

And, uh, we're just waiting for it to really firm up with the cold weather, 'cause it gets awesome in the winter. Yes. Yeah. We'll have to make a trip down there.

I never, I never rode the beach, um, kind of in the Milwaukee area. You guys ride, like, where, out of Port Washington?

Yeah, that's probably the best place to get the most mileage right now, but we do monkey around right down here in the city, too.

You know, just sort of depends on how the, the wind flows and the spray freezes and how much ice shelf we get off the lake there, so. It, uh...

But, uh, Port's pretty consistent just the way the topography of the shoreline up there is.

We can get a good quarter mile plus of ice out into the lake there that's super solid with the, you know, the big 10, 12, 15-foot moon crater sized- Yeah, it's-... you know, hills and, uh-... fun...

it, it's, it's a blast. Wow. Cool. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's always like riding in a alien world for sure, uh, in the wintertime on Lake Michigan. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Awesome. Love it.

Uh, so, uh, another thing we wanted to talk to you about is the Snow Crown series, which you're kicking off in Manitowoc at Shell Trac in a couple of... well, about a week from, from Saturday. So, uh, let u- Yeah...

clue us in on the series. I know it's one of the longest, if not the longest running series around, so... Yeah. That's right. So Shell Trac this year, um, will be year number 10.

I think we started the series as a whole, uh, 2014 or '15. Um- I was there... yeah, Shell Trac was, uh, year 10 of Shell Trac this year, and, um, I think it's gonna be a dirt year, dirt and beach year this year.

Uh, we're supposed to see 50-degree weather on Wednesday, Thursday, and then temps are gonna drop down into the low 30s, high 20s on Friday, Saturday. At least that's what the forecast is saying.

But, um- It's been fun... yeah, unfortunately no snow I don't think this year. Yeah, we got a dusting today, but I, it didn't stick around, so I, I don't... We're not gonna see anything through the weekend down here.

I don't know about next week yet, but it's, uh, it's been an- Yeah, uh- It's been a warm, it's been a warm early, early winter. Do you remember the year when it was so warm- Yeah... we could ride in the river?

what's the, the whole series is, uh, one, two, three... Is it four races this year? Yep, four races. Um, pretty much all in northeastern Wisconsin. Three in the Green Bay area, and then the one in Manitowoc.

Oh, I've definitely done- Yeah, so- Definitely done Reforestation Camp before. What are the other two venues? Baird Creek and Hilly Haven, what are those like?

So B- um, we haven't officially announced it yet, but, um, Baird's Creek is getting pulled out of the series, mainly just not enough room for parking, and it c- can't really handle much more than, uh, you know, 100 riders.

You know, so we're, we're usually seeing about 200 to 300 riders, plus all the spectators.

So we didn't officially announce it, but Baird's Creek is out, and we have our second meeting with, uh, the Green Bay Country Club, which is kind of a really cool private golf course.

Uh, we toured it a couple weeks ago, and there, it, it's, there's not a flat spot on the course. So it should be really cool. I remember doing a, we did a- Um-... race on a golf course up in, uh,

Michigan one of the f- o- one of the first years that we'd, we're doing fat bike racing, and it was on a golf course, and they used the sand traps a lot, which was really cool. Yeah. Ooh, yeah, that would be cool.

Um- Yeah, it's kinda like, yeah, that's perfect. You know, you got the snow, and then you got the sand, and fat bikes are perfect for that stuff.

So is the, is the TB date, to, to be determined date, uh, still gonna be that 22nd, or is that undetermined at this point? So yeah, it's, the, the plan is to still have it January 22nd,

but yeah, at the Green Bay Country Club. But yeah, like I said, we, we have our, uh, second meeting with them tomorrow, and, uh, should go official by the weekend. Awesome. Right on.

Well, I know you always throw a good party. Yeah, it- It's definitely a good time to do any Snow Crown Series races, so if, uh, folks are available...

I know we talked to, uh, Amelia Kegel last week, and there's very little overlap in the Huge Ass series and your series. So people, if they wanna race every- Yeah...

single weekend can probably do one or the other and have a really good time at either one of them. Right, or both. Yeah, absolutely. They can. So I, I think I was looking at the schedule. There is one that overlaps.

I'm not 100% sure, but somebody has brought it up. But February 5th, I think they actually have a race in Appleton, same date as our Reforest- Reforestation Camp race.

But ours is at night, so I think some riders, if they made the trip up, they can kinda double dip and do the Huge Ass in the morning and then our race at night. Um, we, we- Yeah, kinda I, I'm looking at the schedule.

It looks like the overlap one, at least according to the current schedule, would be that, that 22nd, that, uh, the one that was gonna be at Baird. Oh, it is the 22nd. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Never mind on that then.

Yeah, but that's a cool... That would've been cool. Like, they, they used to do a... W- when we did the Riverwest 24, it always ended here on a Saturday night at, at 7:00, and that was, like,

just when the, the race up in, uh, the 24-hour race up in the middle of the state was always going off. And it's like, "Well, can we get in a truck and go up there and do the last 12 hours up there?"

the final 12 at that, that 24-hour race at, uh, Nine Mile or wherever it was or is. Oh, wow. Yeah, that sounds like a long weekend. Yeah.

Yeah, it's, well, it's like, uh, you know, it's like the, the race car driver's doing Indy and then boogying out and doing Charlotte or something like that on the same day.

It's like, "Yeah, let's get in the jet and go do another bike race." [laughs] Uh, ouchie. So, uh, another thing I just wanted to touch base with you on is fat bike availability this year.

I mean, we talked to, again, uh, we talked to Amelia last week, and they ordered a ton of them, and I think she said they'd gotten 10 in at this point- Yeah... or something. Yeah.

I saw you had a big stack of, uh, Salsas. How are, how are fat bikes doing, and is availability still... Do you still have bikes to, to sell to folks?

Yeah, we have, um, quite a f- well, not quite a few, but we have maybe 20 to 30 Salsa Mukluks still available. That's your kinda bread and butter base model, alloy frame, carbon fork,

you know, nice microshift one by 10 on it, hydraulic brakes. Yeah, we got, so quite a few models of that. And then we started getting a, a shipment of Bear Greases in, and we, we got a- Bear Greases...

quite a few frame sets in, so we've been doing some custom bui- high-end custom builds with those.

And those we've been shipping around the country, but everything else, um, you gotta be local or you gotta be willing to drive to pick it up. And we've had one guy from Kentucky come- Wow...

drive up and pick a fat bike up. We have a guy driving over from Wyoming, believe it or not, to pick one up. Wow. Um, it's, it's pretty wild. Yeah. Well, I, I'm glad you did- For sure...

you, you, you somehow foresaw that you were gonna need these, and, uh, o- obviously you're doing a good job with Salsa, so they take care of you. But that's, that's fantastic that you have availability. Yeah, yeah.

I mean, it's definitely our livelihood in the, uh, in the wintertime. We don't, you know, we don't do skis or fitness equipment or, um, anything like that.

So I mean, if we, um, if we didn't get fat bikes, I don't know if we'd be in trouble for sure. So usually we sell a couple hundred fat bikes a year, and, you know, we put in an order for over, I think, 200...

Salsa still came through and we got a hundred fat bikes. Um, so it definitely helps, for sure. You know, and th- that was the whole reasoning too with, like, if you want a fat bike, you gotta come pick it up.

We're not gonna ship this thing out. And that way we can capture some sales on boots and clothing and accessories and things like that. Otherwise, you know, if we're shipping a bike out, we're not gonna see any of that.

Yeah, for sure. And you're not gonna have a return customer down the road either, so. Yeah. Yeah. Right. I agree. Right. It's definitely helping. The sport's still growing up here, which is nice.

We're seeing more trails opening. Um, you know, obviously with our fat bike series, that helps. But yeah, it's, it's, uh, definitely growing in the, in this part of the country, for sure. Awesome. Right on.

When are you gonna open your first e-bike store? Um, you know, this new store that we opened, I would say majority of the bikes that have been going out of it have been e-bikes.

So it's not e-bike specific, but majority of the bikes going out the door are e-bikes. A much more family-oriented place, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Road bikes, hybrids, kids bikes, um, and e-bikes, for sure.

What, uh, what brand of e-bikes are you carrying? Uh, so we're doing Specialized is our main brand, uh, G- followed by Gazelle, and, uh, we just picked up a new line called Rambo.

They do a line of, uh, fat bike, e-bike, hunting bikes. And- Yeah. Yep, I know Rambo Yeah, yeah, we've seen them. They're- They- They're pushing them out pretty good...

they, yeah, it's definitely growing in popularity and, um, you know, it kind of brings me back to a couple years ago when Cogburn was around, and I think they were just a little bit ahead of their time.

You know, if they would've just came out now, like, I, I mean, you guys probably see it, e-bikes are just so hot and, um, you know, especially in the outdoor world.

Like, uh, it just seems like we have so many outdoor guys coming in and requesting this Rambo brand.

[laughs] Um, so they must be getting their mar- they must be getting their marketing out, out somewhere somehow that's, uh, reaching these, uh, these outdoor guys, so.

Yeah, I was, uh, watching, just kind of watching TV the other day as background while I was doing something, and there was a show about Polaris, you know, those all-wheel drive things that, uh, you know, they're like buggies, whatever you call those things.

Those things are bad ass. And they were, they, they were- What are they, side by side? Yeah, and they were hauling a... They were hauling, uh- Razor... e-bike... Yeah, Razors, right, yeah, the Polaris.

Um, and they were hauling, uh, mountain bikes on them, and then it turned out they were electric mountain bikes, which was kinda cool, 'cause they were out somewhere in Utah and they could really, you know, utilize the, the e-bike action and kind of drive back into the backwoods or the back desert with them.

So I went and bought three spokes and a new spoke wrench from the, uh, Sun Country, Sun Country Bicycles right here in Temple, Texas, and I decided I was gonna true my wheel myself, and guess what? I did.

and, uh, after begging my mother for a good 25 minutes, I got, um, a new rim on the way to Temple, Texas, and it took six days- Holy mackerel... to get here. Oh. So I... Yeah, so I've been, uh, I've been rolling around.

I mean, and then I was walking, I was walking Heather everywhere in Temple, Texas, and, uh, for six days we've been hanging out, and, uh, thank God Temple, Texas is cool, 'cause it is, it is very cool. I had my joke.

I got the rim today, and it took me about six minutes to put the, you know, to get the tire in the, and the tube in there, and pump her all up, and get her ready to go, and now, um,

I'm, I'm gonna be very careful not to hit nothing with that 'cause that's, that rim, I, I replaced both rims just after Christmas last year. So I gotta be careful because I can't afford another rim.
