Like he's 33 years old. Right? You know? [laughs] What a lovely day. And I understood him, which was the other interesting... I'm like, wow. But yeah, it was definitely a, a beautiful... We've had some great weather.

Well, yeah, so I, you know, I... One of my favorite kinds of riding is bike packing. Um, n- finding other people though who have days in a row to go off on a trip with me is, is not easy. So I, it's...

When I started watching him when he did the, um, Tour Divide route with his dog. He's the first guy to complete the Tour Divide with a dog on the back of his bike. Nice.

He's got a very cool titanium custom Meriwether long tail, um, with I... pinion drive. Um, yeah, it's a pretty sweet bike. I'm not in that income bracket, as, uh- [laughs] Yeah, that's a pricey bike.

I was just looking at pinion today. Well, you can either have time to goof off and do this- [laughs]... or you can have money to buy one of those fancy- I'd have to get another job just to buy that bike. Right. Yeah.

Um, but, um- Yeah... so I was looking around and the, um, last time I was in town, I was in Bend Cycle, and they had an Omnium, the Mini Max, on the floor. And I rode it, and I picked it up, and it's just a steel one.

They make a ti one, but just a steel one. It was super light. It rides like a regular bike. Um, I've ridden Bullets. They do have a little bit of learning curve.

Um, I used to have a Yuba SuperMarche, if you remember their front loader. Yep. Yep. I don't know that they make that anymore. But, um, but, uh, so I was looking to get one of those.

Cowboy, right now I have a Yuba Sweet Curry that I've added the Bafang to.

Um, and I have a big bread basket thing on the back that Cowboy can ride on, but he doesn't really like it, and he can't see back there, and I can't see him when he's back there. Right.

So I kinda wanted to put him in the front again to bring him along so I now have a... Whether he wants to go on a bike packing trip or not, he doesn't really get to choose. [laughs] Yeah.

You, uh- So my friends all get to tell me no. You- Cowboy can't say no. [laughs] You didn't need to really sell this bike, but boy, you totally sold the bike. [laughs] Yeah. And so the... what makes the... what...

for those that don't know, what makes the Omnium unique among analog cargo bikes is that it has room for 2.4 inch mountain bike tires. Mm.

A Bullet, you can just barely squeeze a two-inch tire in the back of a Bullet, you know, and, uh, most of the other ones don't. There are more e-assist cargo bikes now that have fat tires that...

But if I'm going for three days in the middle of nowhere, I don't wanna have to be worried about-... charging up- Right... you know. True.

I mean, I can probably- And if you can't charge up, riding a really heavy bike down a hill- A really heavy bike with a 45-pound dog- Dog... plus, plus all my gear Yeah, no, that sounds like a really bad day.

[laughs] Right. Yeah. Well, yeah, Tony's riding a cargo bike basically with, uh, 20 by fours. Um, 20 by threes, but I'm gonna go with the specialized Karlaus Whisper's, which are 3.5s. Oh. [laughs] Gumwalls.

um, for those that are listening and, and won't see any, you know, thing that Greg has in the show notes or whatever- I'll throw, I'll throw a, uh, picture or two up of it...

yeah, um, it has a 29er rear wheel and a 20-inch front wheel, and, um, unlike a Bullet, the 20-inch front wheel is underneath the deck in the front. So the cargo deck is above the 20-inch front wheel.

So it's low, but it's, it's not as low as a Bullet. Right. So again, you get more ground clearance for riding off-road, which is where I'm riding. And your doggy's a lot closer to scratch. Yeah, right.

Um- [laughs] So, uh, uh, the, the one upgrade I've debated, I've seen one guy in England has done this, is put a 20-inch suspens- front suspension fork on those, and that, because of the rise of e-bikes with 20-inch wheels- They're becoming-...

That thing's been around since like 2011 or something. Has it? It's a Suntour- What?... Suntour Swing- How do you get that?... Swingfork. 'Cause that thing seems like a really good idea.

I, it, I don't even think Suntour US carries it. I think they come in from either on bikes that are disassembled or they're bringing them in, uh, but on eBay. And it looked like a good idea.

The reason I was looking at it, 'cause Dave and I had talked about suspension forks yesterday on the, uh, on the front of the Omnium, is that the axle, the crown on the Omnium is really short. It's like, what? 275. Yeah.

I didn't understand what you were asking me to measure. Oh, okay. I thought you were asking me how big a tire will fit underneath the fork crown. I didn't realize- Oh... so you'd have to add that much more- Okay...

to what I measured, uh- Yeah. So then it would be pretty similar to this fork, and that was kind of why I was interested because a lot of the, uh, traditional telescopic forks have- Are taller... a much longer- Right...

axle to crown, and that's gonna change the geometry more than you may want. Right. And this goofy thing only has 30 millimeters of travel, but- It's 150 bucks. It might be worth trying one. It's magnesium.

But I did, I did read some reviews that said it has like a, like a, a wobble vibration. Hm. Like maybe those, the, um, maybe the, the pivots are not designed for heavier weight or something. Hm.

Uh, it's for Dahan- I think they made them for Dahans- Okay... originally. Okay. Well, I mean, Dahan's- Let me know. I'd check one out... yeah, Dahan's not a crap bike, so. No, no, I had one.

And, you know, uh, what are these, what are people doing with it? Are they like trying to do full-on downhill with it and expecting it to perform or is it- Right... just around town at- Just a nice comfy ride...

15 miles an hour on- Yeah... you know. It's like where- And I'm using it, I'm not, you know, using this bike for enduro. I'm taking the chatter off of, you know, washboard on gravel- Right... and stuff like that. Yeah.

So since it takes a 29er rear, could it take a, obviously, smaller diameter wheel with a bigger tire if you want it to? Probably. You could, but- There's not that much. It does have a rocker- It's-...

for the, uh, the dropout, but right now with the 2.4 on there, it's all the way forward and the tire's nicely- Yeah, it-... in the, the area where- 2.4 is a nice fit in the back. Yeah.

The front, I have a 2.4 in it, but I had to... It's squeezed- Pretty tight... in there. Yeah. I'm gonna switch it to a 2.25 in the front. Um, they advertise it- 20? 20-inch. Nice. Yeah.

They advertise it as fitting 2.15s with fenders. I'm not gonna run fenders on this bike, so I can fit bigger tires. Especially on the front. You have a flat. Yeah, especially on the front. But, um, I won't run fenders.

It, it wouldn't be a civilized bike then. [laughs] Uh, at 160s, according to Nerdo. Millimeters or... I used 160s. I could have, I could have added like a... I thought about post- 185s or something like that...

yeah, and extending with an extender on it. But I'm using, um, Dominion A4, so four-piston hydraulic brakes. They're- Those will stop you... on Haze. Yeah. They'll stop you. It's, it's great.

I'm interested to get a, a hands-on report for Dominions. I, I already like the lever. You, well, you rode it just around here. Yeah, just- It, they had a pretty darn nice lever feel. Yeah.

I r- way better than like my BB7s on my, on my Sweet Curry [laughs] like which are like, they work, they stop the bike, but there's no love happening there on the handlebars. Right. Yeah. The Dominions are pretty sweet.

No, not like the- No, I'd have to more compare those to TRP, you know, Spires or something. Yeah. You know. Yeah, I think, uh, kinda the gold standard for affordable hydraulics for me is like a, just a Shimano XT.

it's two 180, 180 degree fisheye lenses that the software stitches the two- Yeah... together automatically, and you can sometimes see a little bit of where the stitching is. Of course.
