uh, just after when I talked to you guys last, just before Global Fat Bike Day, the, the, the Global Fat Bike Day was one of the best that we've had in years. Yeah. Uh, it actually, we did have snow.

I went riding with a few buddies and, um, it was fantastic, and then it sorta just dried out. There wasn't a, wasn't a great amount of accumulation.

And then I think based on what I r- when I was listening to you guys, it was basically the same. We got, uh, a massive amount of snow in a short period of time and, uh, more than, than I can remember in the last decade.

So that made things, on the other end, it was tricky to ride because there was too much snow, so we'd ended up- Ah... doing the cross-country ski thing and- Yeah, you can't, uh- And, um, but yeah... can't win for losing.

No, we, we've had- No, I know. Everybody wants to have- [laughs] Hmm? I was gonna say, we, we kinda had a... Down here where we are in Milwaukee, we did not have a snow event that was that big.

I think they had one up where, uh, Seely Dave is, kinda more northy, northern Wisconsin way. We had two weekends back to back that just, that just pounded us with snow.

And so much so actually that the, the streets here became only just one lane narrow. If we had gotten another snowfall, I don't know.

[laughs] Most people's front lawns in the newer subdivisions are so tiny that they really had nowhere to put the snow. I mean, it wasn't- [laughs]... not something like Buffalo gets. I mean, we, we talked- Oh, yeah...

about a lot of snow here, but it, it's not like where you would see people shoveling their roofs off. It wasn't like that- Yeah... but it was a lot for here- Yeah... where we are. Yeah.

So I just, uh- And, uh- Uh, y- y- do you run 45 North tires? Uh, yes. Actually, that was, I was... Ha, so I jotted down a couple things that I wanted to talk to you about. Oh, okay.

And I wanted to know from you, because you're more, um, sort of, you know, you're in the industry. You know, I can just buy things or whatever. But is Nor- 4th, 45 North, are they planning on doing any, um,

of, the versions of their tires, like say for instance the Husker Du in a 27.5? Because, uh, what I do with the bike that I had, the Norco was great. I would run the Dillinger 4 unstudded up front, the aggressive tire.

Uh-huh. And on the back I'd run the Husker Du 4 inch on the back. Gotcha. Well, now they've made the, the Husker Du 4.8 and it looks kinda odd. It's a little bit too, it looks weird. Yeah.

It was a skinnier tire at the front and the wide tire at the back. Sure. Yeah. So I was wondering if you had heard anything if they're gonna do that at all or any of the, the other variations of their tires.

In, uh, in 27.5? Yes. It's, yes. I'm, yeah, the D- so the Dillinger 5 they make in a 27.5, which is really a 27 by 4.5. Uh- Yeah...

so in, in a 26 inch it would be a, like a 4.8, but in a 27.5 it's a 4.5. Math. We were just, uh, Seely Dave and I were just talking about this because,

I went and, back and, and kinda redid an article that, uh, Gomez had written some time ago about 26 by five versus 27.5 by 4 and a half. Blah, blah, blah.

specifically purpose-built, uh, most of my, most of my fat bikes, uh, would not be happy with a 27 by 4.5, although my new Bearclaw would. I just have n- personally never had that size tire or that size wheel, so.

They're running 27.5, so what I would, what I did run on mine, because I do use it for commuting primarily, I get back and forth, but it also... And I use it for everything else as well.

So I try to stay, if I'm trying to get somewhere in a decent amount of time, I'll stay with the four-inch tires.

So the Dillinger, unstudded Dillinger 4 tires, they're pretty aggressive and they roll fairly decently for- Yeah... um, you know, if you're doing bike packing and stuff.

The reason I like the Husqvarna tread was because it was, it was so fast rolling. I mean, you, you...

There was very little resistance on it and I thought if they would make the, the larger diameter tire with the, with the Husqvarna tread pattern. I mean, what I'm always looking for is something that is a summer...

They always, they always, they stress the winter, winter, winter, but they don't really ever have a nice summer tire that's, you know, as, as nice as that Husqvarna. It was a great tire.

It wore down very quickly on the roadway. It did. I w- will say that. It did- Yeah. That-... tread off very fast, but- That's sort of a, that's sort of a NE 45Nrth. They seem to wear pretty quickly. Um, the Vanhelga.

Vanhelga. 45Nrth Vanhelga. Mm-hmm. Which is what I was kind of opening this up with. They sent a, an email around like, "Oh, it's an all, it's an all-season tire, that thing.

You can use that, you know, summer, winter, sand, snow, whatever." And it's... I, I like to see 45Nrth embracing that because they were always all about, you know, cold weather and snow and groomed trails and all that.

Yeah. Well, now you wanna sell some tires, you wanna get people to be riding not only in the winter. They need to be riding all season long. And so they do make a 27.5 by 4 Vanhelga, so that might be...

What, this Rocky Mountain came with these, what's supposed to be 4.8, uh, studdable Cake Eaters. Fantastic tire, but they are massive. They...

If I set them beside another 4.5 inch tire, like this VEE Rubber tire that my son's bike came with, they are, they're almost too big to fit in the t- They're huge. They're a massive tire.

And so I don't know where they're, where they're measuring from, but that tire is the biggest 4.5 that I've ever seen. Yeah. Have, have you...

I know that, uh, I think there's a couple companies, like WTB, I don't think they even make a 26-inch fat bike tire. They came out right away with the Bailiff, which is a 27.5 by 4 1/2. So. Okay.

And, and I was just looking. This, I thought that, uh, Schwalbe made a Jumbo Jim in a 27.5, but I'm not finding it. And then Maxxis, uh, if you can still get 'em, Minion, uh, FBF and FBRs are 27.5 by 3.8.

So if you want your kind of commuter tire, that might be one to look at. Yeah. As soon as the tread pattern on their Maxxis Colossus too seem to be more of a s- uh, short...

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong tire, but they had a shorter, almost like a stubbier square lug. You know what I mean? And those re- looked like they might work as well.

Yeah, it, it takes a while to wear them off, so it's, by the time I get to the next set of tires, maybe they'll have some different variations of something else.

But, you know, I've been happy with the purchases, especially 45Nrth sets up so easy.

With a, with a simple air pump, those pump up to the, the witness line there so quick, it doesn't matter if it's tubeless or, or with the tubes. Yeah. It doesn't... Uh, such seem easy to use.

I mean, they're great tires for that. I've fought with some other tires and just about, you know, it's, it's brutal trying to get 'em on the rim to seat, but those tires set up almost effortlessly.

With 10 pounds of air in 'em, they're set. So I've, I like that feature as well. They're built, really well-built tires. What, uh, does- Worth the money... what rims does, do the wheels have?

rim that's not a specific, like, Bontrager for Trek, and obviously Specialized- Mm... doesn't do it anymore. So pretty much, you know, most of your bikes are gonna have that.

We got one of the, uh, Panorama ChikChuks 3 bikes in for testing, and that had that, uh, that Sun Ringlé with some 45Nrth tire on. Dave's, Dave's still got it up in Seeley.

He just did a bike packing trip and stuff on it, but that's kind of a cool bike. I... It's got... I'm, I, I'm curious to ride it.

He's gonna bring it back down here, and I wanna check it out on the beach, 'cause it's got a fairly steep, uh, seat tube at, like, 74.

And then a 66 head tube angle, which that's about as slack as I've ever heard on a fat bike, so curious. Yeah, it works, it works well.

That, that angle, those angles are what's basically what the Rocky Mountain has and, and it, it worked great. I, I felt so at home on that bike. It didn't have... It... There was little to do when it came stock.

There was very little I did to it that made it better. You know what I mean? I could put on the fancy, you know, anodized parts, but it didn't make it the... It didn't make the bike better in the sense of fit wise.
