You look at- So are you, are you lucky enough to be able to work from home, or what's happening with your actual, uh, employment situation? No, the, the bonus thing with what I do is I actually am, uh, one of the, um...

We, I work in the water department in the city of Cambridge, so it's, it's one of those things where if something, like freshwater is, uh, ver- essential.

Like, if the lights go out, people don't immediately call and wanna kill the electric company. They just assume that something's happened, the transformer's down, the lights go out for a bit, and they just deal with it.

But if you have a water shortage or a water stoppage, they are immediately, [laughs] they kinda be crazy immediately. So, uh- How the heck you gonna wash your hands-... we, we keep the water flowing and-...

We keep it, uh, keep from, you know, washing people's faces out and, um, you know, keep it fresh and, and safe to drink and, uh, uh, do, do all the washing and sanitizing and all that stuff too.

So yeah, I'm on call basically 24/7, and, and, um, and then, um, we're kinda doing a rotating shift between all the guys that are on the crew.

So we don't necessarily get together as a big group, but we, we kinda just sorta, you know, do our thing individually.

And then if we have to get together, we, you know, we do as best we can and keep safe and all the rest of it. So yeah. But I get to...

The good thing is that I, I have been commuting to, by work for 16 years now, so I kinda just bike to work.

And I, when the weather gets good, I go though, the, there's a couple different ways I can go, and the one way's about a 15 or 16 kilometer, uh, way in the morning, which is r- nice and quiet and, and calm.

Are kilometers more or less than miles? So it's actually pretty good. I'm, I'm enjoying it. [laughs] So- Those, yeah, those are, like, those are less than miles, right? Yeah, so it's like 12 miles. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.

16 kilometers. If you say, so for instance, if it's 10, 10 miles is 16K.

So if I, if in my morning commute I can, I can do an easy, I can do a 10 mile, uh, in the morning I can do 10 miles to work, and then I can, or I can shorten it up and do, like, a three, three and a half mile or something like that- Nice...

depending on which way I go. So what's in the, uh, bike stable at your house?

Right now, well, well, I've just been, I just was actually out just this afternoon tuning up my 2014 Devinci Troy, which is, uh, I finally got it to... You know, it's been, it's been a good bike.

It's, uh, a lot of fun to ride. Uh, dualie suspension. And then, uh, I have my, um, my 2019, uh, Norco Bigfoot, which I put together- Nice... last, last summer there. A little bit piece by piece I guess. It was a...

I had a 2015, and the frame cracked. And unfortunately, even though Norco was absolutely fantastic about sending a frame,

w- the [laughs] compatibility of, of the 2015 to the 2019 was basically you just got a frame and then you have to build the bike from the frame. So- Sure.

So the- So not, not a lot of the parts worked, but it, but it is a nice bike now to have it all put together. Yeah, I remember that being a pretty fair bike, and it's in the original, uh, guise.

So they made some changes to the, uh, component spec or the, uh, standards that you had on the old one versus the new one? Oh, absolutely. The, the, the, the spec on the new bike was really, really...

I mean, for the money you can't beat it. Honestly, if someone's getting into the, into the game and they wanted to ride a fat bike, Norco's a good way to go because the standover height is really super low. Mm-hmm.

Um, I mean, if you get into the deep snow or whatever and you have to step off the bike, you're not gonna get, you know, you're not gonna get crushed. Nice. Yeah.

And, uh, but the bike itself is, it, it comes with just about everything you need, and you can, you don't have much to, much to do to make it a great bike.

It, you know, you can fiddle with it if you wanna make it your own bike, but otherwise it's a right out of the box stock it's a good bike. Yeah. And I, I really enjoyed my 2015.

I actually would al- kind of put piece, pieces here and there on it, and, um, I color matched everything.

And unfortunately [laughs] when I got the new frame it was a completely, uh, different color and nothing lined up, and it just looked r- it looked like a quilt. It looked like- [laughs]...

like green and red and black and orange. And I mean, it was ugly as anything, so I had to, [laughs] I had to scale it back and kinda make everything black and blue again. Huh.

S- you know, speaking of low step over Canadian fat bike, we happen to be looking at a, um, Surface 604 Bore that just, uh, came in as a demo bike. It's a, uh- Yeah, review bike for the old fatbike.com. Yeah.

She's a, uh, top speed on it we're seeing so far is 29 and a half miles an hour. Well, that was downhill. Well, it's, uh- This is an electric bike.

I don't know if you're familiar with these guys out of Surface 604, but- It, it, th- [clears throat] we, I think we tested the last one back in 2012.

This one is actually the current 2020 model, and it- and they've kind of angled it a little more towards outdoor folks, I think. Yeah, it's got- Uh, hunters and fishermen and whatnot. And, uh, so far so good.

It's really cool. It's got a 500 watt Bafang rear, uh, rear hub and, uh, you know, hecking A. I'm, I'm an old guy. These electric bikes are kinda interesting. [laughs] It, it changes the game a little.

You know what I like? Appreci- I can a- I can honestly appreciate, uh, the electric feature for, for somebody who's id- you know, if these young guys that are...

If you wanna go a good, with good components, good electric, you're gonna be, you know, a big dollar figure, and I, I think I'd rather... Maybe I'd drop that on something with a titanium frame or s- you know what I mean?

Like, I'd, comparably I'd get something with a bigger gear range and just, uh... Uh, but, uh, you know, if you wanna get around with the, with equipment and stuff like that, absolutely electric.

If you're going in the bush and you gotta c- haul a lot of gear and trailer full of stuff to, you know, trail maintenance and that, I can see it. Yeah. I can see- Yeah...

or maybe commuting, you know, getting some groceries and stuff with a little, little he- loaded down. But- Yep... yeah, for the time being, I'm gonna stick with just the regular old- They got their purpose...

Especially when you commute in the winter, the salt. I mean, I don't know how you guys are, but the salt here, they just dump it on like- Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah We like our salt, too. Like, uh, you know. Unfortunately.

They salt to death, and I think that the, anything that just takes an absolute beating in the metal or otherwise, electric, it just takes an absolute beating in the salt. Yeah.

So I'm al- always, you know, sort of amazed at that, the bike is such a freak show, and it's such a fun thing to ride and it just, it, it brings a smile to your face every time you get on it.
