Now the cold- There was a bright sun... now the cold is doing its freezing over thing. Mm. Yay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. [laughs] Although March sunshine is coming in like gangbusters according to my solar ray. Oh, nice. Yes.

Too bad you can't convert that heat into, uh, heat. No kidding. [laughs] Well, you could, it's just really expensive. Tony had a little furnace issue over there at the old- Yeah... uh, Burger residence. Yeah.

So we're solved though? We got heat back? We have heat back. Right on. Good thing it's on a day that's 30 degrees warmer than when it went out. No kidding.

And food. [laughs] And food, yeah, for sure. Uh, yeah, so, uh, what's been happening? We, we did a ride there, over there in Zion. Right down there in Zion-O.

That was, uh, the last Fat Sunday ride that they do out of Zion Cyclery. I thought, "Well, we should probably go check that out," which we did. [laughs] I, I, I got a message from, from Mr.

Lunz that he had gone south of the border and had, uh, Bugles that were chorizo. Chor- chor... What's the s- cinnamon and sugar snack? Hmm. Churro flavored. Wow. Oh. I think I missed those Bugles.

No, I did not. He sent me a picture of them, in which case I responded, "Did JK make it or not?" [laughs] Because we were all late last night. Yeah, you made it. Yeah, in body. [laughs] Yeah.

[laughs] But hey, let's, let's throw- And that was half the battle... let's, uh, throw a shout-out to El Rongo throwing it down. Hell yeah. That was a ripper. Oh, the night before? Mm-hmm. Yes. Right on. Yeah.

Yeah, that was a good, that was a good ride, I mean, even for my little bit of brokenness, but...

Turned out to be a, a very, a very fun ride, the, uh- And speaking of brokenness [laughs] Which- There was a little bit of ice breaking.

[laughs] Yeah, I think there was, uh, I don't know, 35 people on it maybe, but only four people seemed to be having a lot of fun. That'd be JK, [laughs] Lunz, myself, and Greg Hahn.

[laughs] Yeah, we- Um, everybody e- I mean, the, the- We got to the turnaround point, and it's like, "All right, hang out." And then I turned around and ha- half the damn group was gone. [laughs] I'm like, "Whoa.

Whoa, whoa." Well, it, it... And the shore of Lake Michigan has such cool icy features. Yeah. And there's also this kind of freeway lane of sand, which is what everybody else was riding.

And I thought, "You know, you've got a fat bike. Why don't you-" Yeah... kind of explore the outer limits of your bike's, uh, you know, traction and..." Funness. Funness, and which is only about 12 feet

to one side of this trail- Yeah, true... where there's the, you know, the moonscape. Yeah. Sand was hard packed enough you could have rode a road bike, right? Oh, yeah, kind of. Pretty much.

I guess maybe- Except part of, part of the s- part of the sand was really actually kind of swimmy, which was surprising. I thought it would all be, like, pretty hard packed. Super hard? Yeah.

Well, that's pretty, um, fine sand down there. Mm. So I think it's, it's... it can be pretty sinky in the summer, so it still had some, some firmness to it. Yeah. I don't know.

Maybe those, uh, fast people were preparing for the Birkie this weekend or something- [laughs]... because, I don't know, just like... [laughs] Well, it, it was only, like, an eight-mile ride. What?

Or nine miles or something total, yeah. Uh, it took us about three hours, so that's pretty good pace. Yeah. You know, ride, beer, ride, beer. Makes sense. Yeah. Watch Dave almost fall in the lake beer.

[laughs] On record too. That was pretty good. I think I probably gotta throw that video up on- Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm... the, on the, uh- That was impressive... website page. [laughs] We almost lost him like a polar bear.

[laughs] Yeah, that was good stuff. So, uh, thanks Zion Cyclery. I think they did four of them this year. If you guys, uh, hear about it next year, I recommend going and checking it out.

Chris does a really good job down there at Zion Cyclery, and they're all fat bike friends. And it's one of the few spots where you've got some contigu- some contiguous beach right now that it's worth actually riding on.

Yeah. Nice. Yeah. And you can make it as, like, slightl- you can make it as, you know, technical and get in places. Oh, yeah. Or you can ride- Take the sand... [laughs] relax and groovey where [laughs]

Yeah, I came up- My, my broken legs are, [laughs] are taking it like, yeah. [laughs] I ca- I came up with a game- All is well... that I, I didn't really explain until we were done with the ride.

But there was a lot of snow, not real deep, but you could see tracks. And I thought, "Well, one guy starts riding, and y'all start in a line.

And the guy rides his line, and you have to take your line outside of that one between the lake and his line." If you cross over his line, you lose. So he'd have to kinda- Ah... keep pushing you towards the edge.

it was, you know, right off the ice there was only about two, three feet deep. It wasn't very deep. Right. Right. I think if Dave would've stepped off the, uh, the

a very different ice shelf along the- Yeah, you're, you were laughing in that video pretty good. [laughs] I was like- As, as he's getting off the, uh, ice onto the shore- Just watching... JK's in the background laughing.

[laughs] Was it- Hilarious... really cold, too, there? I, I don't remember Sunday's weather. Eh, 14 degrees, I think. Yeah. Yeah. You can survive that. You know, I had my blue balaclava on, like Tony wore in today.

These are, uh, like army surplus balaclavas. A guy in the neighborhood, uh, got a bunch of them for me s- for people that are... Can be whatever, riding, y- your snowshoeing, doesn't matter.

But I had mine on, and then my helmet was the wrong one, so I couldn't adjust it and it was kinda tight, so I took it off and I wore my snowboarding helmet, and I'm like kinda lucky maybe because those things are so warm.

Mm-hmm. I think I might have, uh, just overheated with that thing on. They're awesome. But even at 14 degrees, we had a tailwind on the way out, which meant you were kinda roasting,

and on the way back we were into that thing. [laughs] And I was happy I had some warm clothes on. I bet. For sure. Yeah, I didn't think about it quite at that damn moment, but...

And on the flip back, I was like, "Oh, yeah, yeah." That... [laughs] Not warm. I wonder... Yeah. [laughs] I wonder why that- Chilly... was a nice pleasant.

I noticed, uh, well, JK kinda took a, an early left, and we kept going straight- Yes, yeah... on the beach to the fence, and the fence is... I thought, "I don't think you wanna go past the fence."

[laughs] That's where the old Zion Nuclear Plant was. Oh, nice. Which they still have some of the nice, uh, wonderful fuel rods on site. So I don't think you would wanna go past the fence.

But the building and the containment building and all the ancillary buildings are now gone- Really?... and are one humongous pile of, uh...

I think they may still be churning up the concrete, but the buildings are no longer. Well, and there was a big swath of, uh, like, of the tree line on the approach into getting to the- Yeah...

beach itself- Those trees go away?... was just knocked down. It... Well, no, it looked like the, uh- It looked like a tornado came through... yeah, exactly. Ooh. It was just like splintered up and...
