I, and I brought that up because I'm starting to feel more human again after our Funduro weekend. [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah. I kinda flaked that it was Wednesday. My- Already... my, yeah, my days are, like, one, one off.

One off. So everything is a little surprising. Right on. [laughs] Every, as I navigate the day. So, yeah. I should be, I should be cool by the weekend- I mean, the, so-... just to do it all again...

Sunday was the Funduro, and, uh, JK rode up on Saturday, Funduro-ed on Sunday, and then had a moist ride home on Monday. Yeah, indeed. Actually, moist on both directions. Oh.

[laughs] Caught a little bit of the, uh, snow event. Kinda raced it away from between Milwaukee and Port Washington. It was not the six to eight inches they had predicted. No, no, no, no.

But it was still- I just kept looking at that radar going like, "Okay, is it time to leave? Leave? No, no, no, yes. No, what? Don't hate me. Yeah. No, this is gonna hold off."

And it didn't hit anything until, uh, right by the, uh, Ozaukee Interurban Bridge that goes over- Oh, yeah... the freeway. There's a, coming from the south, there's this huge open expanse.

Is that, like, the Chris Kegel Memorial Bike Park or something? Uh, no. Or, or a bench, benchery on the side of the road? No, um, there, um, the, um, bike lock staples. There's, like, two of those with- Okay...

his stuff on it. Cool. Kegel Foundation. Right on. I was looking around. I was like, "Where the hell is it? Where am I?" So there's, yeah, to lock up, and there's a Porta Potty there. I didn't even realize. Just there.

That's awesome. I was like, "Ooh-hoo-hoo." It, but, like, right before that, it just was sleet crap, thinking I, you know, there's another six miles in that direction, and I was really crestfallen. [laughs] Yes.

But it worked out nicely because the little memorial marker that is there was a perfect wind blocker and just hung out- So it's on-... for five minutes... it's only six miles from the bridge to the end of the ride? Yeah.

Oh, well that's- Yeah... kinda handy. Yep. Right on. Yeah. Right on. It turns out it- Right on, right on, right on... taking the Oak Leaf and the, uh, Interurban, Ozaukee Interurban, it's about three hours

roughly, you know. With copious stops along the way. Well, yeah. It's like ride for an hour, drink for an hour, ride for an hour, drink for an hour. Eat and drink for an hour. Um, [laughs]

No, like, that sounds like a good plan. So you guys got up there mid, mid-afternoon on Saturday? Um, actually, [laughs] yeah, closer to early evening. Okay.

It, it was, the, the first pit stop was a little longer than anticipated. The, it was two hours instead of one, so everything kinda got shifted. Got compressed. So that, that sets you up for the Funduro day the next day.

Indeed, indeed. I, I, [laughs] upon arriving in town, I'm going like, "I don't know how much I got in the tank anymore." [laughs] But it worked out. It was, it was a f- very pleasant day.

Well, yeah, and that, that was the surprise of the weekend was that it was supposed to be kind of gloomy and rainy, and it turned out to be a bluebird day from nobody's business, 'cause it was- Oh, yeah... beautiful.

Indeed, indeed. I think, uh, Gomez might have been doing a non-rain dance to the non-rain gods. [laughs] And, and, uh, we, we lucked out. It, it really... It, it could not have gone better.

And, uh, you know, Gomez took the lead, Fatbike.com, and, uh, our friends from, uh, Zuzu Pedals and Zion Cyclery both had bands that went off without a hitch. Oh, indeed. Death by Misadventure and Ex-Uncle. Right.

And, uh, there was a lot of, a lot of good derbying and whatnot while the bands were playing. [laughs] Yeah, and then [laughs] there was a little bit of, uh, the Pat Smage- Pat, the Pat Smage Experience...

Smage, uh, yeah. Yeah. Look, look for some pictures of that because Mike was the, uh, one of the two lay down on the ground guinea pigs for Pat's, um, feat of strength, bicycle handling- Vol- volunteering, uh-...

skills... vol- volunteering of course via the, uh- Via the push in the back [laughs]... backhanded shoulder of Mr. Chris, you know. [laughs]And then, uh, both Berta and I were [laughs] were a victim of that one.

definitely the entertainment portion of it, but, uh, both of the rides were entertaining as well. We, before the bands went up North Beach way and- Yeah...

I, I did, I somehow got off the back, and there was about a dozen people that really ki- we probably made it a mile bef- oh, I, well, uh, Eric had a flat, so we kinda stopped and- Oh. Yeah, sure...

and I kinda hung out with him for a little bit. I gave him my pump. We kept going, and then I noticed the other group was stopped, like, a couple hundred yards up the beach, and then they took off, and I'm like, "Ah,

I'm not gonna go that hard to try and catch up with them," so. Indeed. Yeah. There, there's a spot where they can't get past, so we- [laughs]...

we, we all milled about there for, uh, quite a while and had some libation and conversation, and, uh, got a chance to talk with Aaron Domeier from Surly quite a bit, and, uh, they brought some demo bikes up there.

That was really cool. And some of them got utilized to the maximum. Indeed, yeah. Maybe when Tony comes back, he can tell us about Sean's digger.

[laughs] Yeah, I, on, on the way back on that north, that's when, uh, Spinner showed up. Right, right And he was coming- Sand's chewy, which was a real bummer, but- Right. He was coming,

heading north, and I was like, "Oh, I'll spin, you know, turn, make a little U-turn here. Okay, I have to go in the lake. That's fine." Well, there's a point where there's a nice shelf. Yes, I know that shelf.

[laughs] And that's where I got a little bike wash [laughs] and test the gators out. [laughs] And I, I mean, I, I, I jokingly said, "Are you gonna play turtle and bike cracky?" Yeah, I, it, it just had to happen.

I, I figured it had to. I thought I had it out of the way just going into the lake just with my legs, but then no, no, no. No. No, it has to be a little more [laughs] theatrical than that.

I did, I, I guess some other people probably did some swimming and/or falling into the water, but- Trudging through- Trudging... at some point... couple of trudgy spots. But nothing, nothing that you-

Basically it was all- You know you were gonna get wet- Right... in some way, shape, or form. Yeah, I mean, and even if you rode it, you were past the axles deep in some stuff, but still- Mm-hmm... it's the lake.

That's what happens down there. Yes. And then, uh, then the ensuing, uh, entertainment and then the South Beach ride, another good ride. Yeah.

We got, uh, with- I was on the tail end of, of the, that, the big centipede on that. [laughs] Right, right. Well, we got clo- uh, we got closed out by a mudslide, and that's where most people stopped.

We, we booked around it and got another, I don't know, half mile up the beach and came back, and everybody was still milling about, and I went up on the hill to sit by some folks and got my foot in a hole- [laughs] Oh, no...

I'm glad I had, I had some 5.10, like, river shoes on, and they were very, very tight on my foot, so it didn't get stuck down in there, but I d- I think it was, like, a endless pit of

people grabbing for my shoe down in that hole. Oh, no. [laughs] There, there, I left them out on my deck for the last two days in the rain to try and clean them off, and they're still [laughs] Just caked...

the healing waters of Lake Michigan, uh, my seat ev- like, un- even today, went to work, got to work, I'm like, "Why, why is my... Oh, yeah, the sponge is not completely dried out yet."

[laughs] So I think we talked l- last show about your, uh, need for some sort of a chamois butter type- The grease?... creamy crease grease stuff. Crease grease. What did you end up, what did you end up using? Aquaphor.

Tony was talking to a customer over there at the, uh, at the shop at the, uh, 7:00 hour when we started our little show here. Oh, look at that. I, I'm 11 minutes late.

[laughs] Excuse me while I have a sip of this fantastic Citra Bomb. Oh, something we were gonna mention, too. Um, we had, uh, the f- good fortune. Mr.

Zito got us a, a, a copious amount of beer from Sprecher Brewing here in Milwaukee, and one of the three that they brought up there was Citra Bomb India Pale Ale, and it, it's pretty tasty. Yeah, it's a tasty beer.

It is. What is this thing? What percentage? It's pretty- Six and a quarter. Oh, it's not even that strong. Yeah. Yeah, but it, a lot of the, uh, Sprecher beers to me have a similar finish, and this is not one of those.

That's, it's better. Maybe it's because it's fire brewed maybe. Maybe. I'm not sure how far and wide- It could be the hop... they distributed the, the, the stuff, but it's got, uh, copious amounts of Citra hops in it.

Boy. That's interesting 'cause a lot of breweries now are going to straight electric. And Simcoe hops. Simcoe. So Well, they've been the, they're the oldest, uh, craft brewer in Milwaukee- They are...

besides the craft brewers- Even though technically they're in Glen Lake... that were here in the 1800s You know, even though technically they're in Glen Lake- Milwaukee County Okay.

So That's actually right up his alley, I think So let's talk about Sean's crash for a moment.

[laughs] 'Cause it was pretty epic, right in front of, uh, the Surly rep, uh- Now, Sean had, uh, gotten a demo version of a Wednesday.

Yeah, uh, but it was a medium, and Sean's a rather tall human being, and he was practicing his having a beer in one hand and riding along the beach with the other. His first time on the beach.

You know, that's something you gotta kinda- Ambitious... work yourself up to. I'll say ambitious. So, um, uh, he happened to be, like, riding over, I would say, a, a log that might have had a width of

three inches and a height of maybe a quarter inch. [laughs] And, uh, didn't wanna spill his beer, and approached the log without pulling up the front tire at all, which forced him to go face-first into the sand.

[laughs] For- forward over the bars? Forward over the bars. Wow. Um, his boys were a little sore, he said. You know, and it was, it was pretty epic. We were laughing kinda hard at him.

I think his feelings were slightly hurt. Um, but, you know, then he saw JK in the water and thought- [laughs]... "All is well." [laughs] You were, like, right up from [laughs] us when that happened.

and I don't get to ride the beach over here. We have rocky, muddy, muddy Mississippi beaches. We don't have what you guys got over there, so, um, yeah, that event though. [laughs] I don't even...

Did you guys figure out how many people you even had? Probably around 80 I think was the general consensus. Yeah, it wasn't an official count, but 80. Yeah, kinda in and out and here and there- Okay...

that, uh, weren't, uh, the super racer type people, and, uh, you know, came to drink some beers and ride, ride on the beach and derby and crash bikes. It was great.

Yeah, I saw that out there. Yeah, so, uh, Annie, our friend from Milwaukee here, ended up with it, which is a good thing, 'cause she needed a bike like that. Yeah, and the- Um... the best part about that was- Okay...

she wasn't even gonna go, and Greg said, "Oh, I'm getting the, uh, you know, Pimp My Ride bike," and I just messaged her. I'm like, "I think you need to come tomorrow." [laughs] And now she's buying a fat bike.

Oh, really? [laughs] Yep. She only came because of that bike, and then she won that bike. Well, she wanted to borrow one 'cause she didn't have one, and I said, "I'll, I'll have a bike for you."

And then I got up there, and I'm like, "Damn it. I forgot a bike for Annie." And then I go, "Wait, I'm buying the Pimp My Pug bike, so why don't I just let her ride that one?"

Which it was a small and perfect for her anyway. Yep. And she ended up loving it, so we- Great... we made a deal, and, uh, I owned it for, like, 10 minutes, and s- [laughs]... sent it down the road. [laughs] Oh, great.

But it, it couldn't go to a more fun cycling person. Annie's kind of a, a, I don't know if legend is the right word, but certainly a fixture in the- Free spirit... in the Milwaukee cycling scene. Yep.

She invited me over to the, uh, hot tub- She's got everything for you anyway... the creepy hot tubs across the way. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah, we had some creepy hot tubs a titty, titty- There's creepy hot tubs where?...

So, uh, we, we talked a little bit on the, uh, on the ride or after ride, whenever we were chatting, maybe at the bar or something at Rascal's there in Port Washington, that you, uh, are working on doing a podcast your own damn self.

Um, tell us what your- Yes... podcast is about and what the dang thing is called. There's so many on Fatbike.com now, I can't even keep track of them all. [laughs] Well, it's not out there yet.

I've done several recordings, but, uh, the crew that I usually have are a bunch of misfits. Uh, we have Scandinavian Jesus from Dunk Cyclists, we have Sab, formerly of Surly, now of Cardboard Robot.

[laughs] And, like, all these podcasts that we've done, the last one I did, we went down to, uh, Scout, Austin, Texas for Single Speed USA, which we're hosting November, first weekend in November.

And, um, long story short, it was a ter- terrible weekend, but, uh, [laughs] we always try doing this after the bar, and, uh, we have at least six failed podcasts by now.
