I was, uh, pleasantly surprised, A, by the weather. It was fantastic. Oh, it was so nice. Oh, yes. So nice. Probably one of the best cycling days of the year for me weather-wise.

I don't think the thrust-to-weight ratio was high enough for its weight, you know. But the zest was there. Yeah. I was like- Yeah... yeah, yeah, yeah. I got- Yep, more power to experimental aircraft people like Kenny.

[laughs] So- No, that was, that was a fun time. It, well, and the derby took an unexpected turn. Just as it was organically going, for whatever reason, it just went around this light pole. Right.

[laughs] And I'm like- Yeah... I was like, "I'm gonna peel out of this one," 'cause [laughs] Well, it made it sort of a, you know- Danger course. It was fun though. Yeah. What was it, uh, Zito was in on the pedal?

Yeah, was Zito in a, um, I, uh, one of, definitely a bike pole- Yep, on a t- Definitely, definitely... on a fixed gear... definitely. Yeah. Yeah. He knew his- He was the guy riding the wheelies too, wasn't he?

I believe so. Yeah. Yeah, he's pretty good. Guy's got some skills. Kind of thick gear wheelie guy. Yeah. He rides one-handed down the street quite a bit.

I think he's the guy that cyclocrosses on a fixed gear too and does jumps on 'em and stuff. [laughs] Show off. Right? Yeah, but it was a, yeah. We had a good crowd. Everybody was cool.

The stops were awesome The stops were fantastic Quick, quick shout-out for those local folks. Uh, Cafe Hollander on Downer, uh, the Palapa at St. Paul Fish Market- Yep... the Valley Inn- Valley Inn was fantastic...

where lunch was had by most. Yes. McKeirnan's. It was a new stop for this ride, but we've- Which-... used it as an overflow for some other [laughs] rides at some- Which may be a stop next year- Yeah...

for food, 'cause that food- Yeah... looked pretty good. It was good. Yeah. They have a- What was it, Big Boy Burger? Big Boy Burger for, like, five bucks on Saturdays. Wow. Yeah, yeah. It was tasty.

[laughs] Then we took a stroll through the Forest Home Cemetery- Oh... which was, or is, where many of the famous Milwaukeeans of your olden day types are, um, permanently enshrined and/or buried,

including Valentine Blatz and the Schlitz boys, which is where we paid homage to them. Indeed, indeed. We had to stop at, uh, Liquor, Beer, and Wine or- Oh, yeah. Oh.

doing that, we went to the Polka Riot, which was a riot. Hell, yeah. It was great. Polka music. Well, pol- it's more- Beetle Infused, we got there for... yep... and then, uh, kind of- Kind of rap... rap, rap infused...

'Cause otherwise, all these bands that were at this thing are booked through Oktoberfest doing their polka- Sure, sure... for money. Well- Real money... last year's ride, it ended at the Palapa, and then we,

So, this year the non-doubling back was, uh, going to see James. Um, our buddy James was on the ride, and, uh, later at, in the evening night, his band did a show at a local bar. We went to see him. Yeah, it was funny.

He, he, he was always threatening to peel off during the ride, and I'm like, "Well, it's kind of a rhythm here." Mm-hmm. You kinda, you know, you're gonna kinda go against your own rhythm here if you try to peel off now.

It's their cr- they call it their cross-country race rig, but a lot of people use it for bike packing and general riding around. And they had a really decent deal, so I said, "Yeah, man, I need me one of them."

Um, unfortunately it rained on Thursday, so we spent the whole day in the bar with, uh- My ironworker brother out there [laughs] Oh. [laughs] You're gonna, you're gonna melt Ironworkers are easily sidetracked by bars.

[laughs] True that. Um, so we didn't ride it all in Marquette. We didn't ride in Houghton, which we usually do. Uh, we just went straight to Keweenaw Brewing Company, where I spent $75 on this wicked cool jersey.

No, they didn't, uh, they didn't have matching shorts unfortunately, so I couldn't get the kit, which I guess I'm not too bent out of shape about, but, you know, whatever. Is the price tag still on it?

'Cause they were charging another 50 bucks for their shorts. Price tag hasn't been ripped off by, uh- But the, uh, jersey's really cool. They have, um... What's that? The price tag still on it so you can return it?

It's got, uh, there's a lift bridge in Houghton, um, I forget what the waterway is called, but it's really wicked, like an old, you know, steel structure lift bridge, and that's on the jersey.

we usually ride the Houghton Tech trails, do like a quick lap on that, and, um, we were kinda running out of time 'cause we got a little sluggish start Friday morning, so we didn't even ride there.

And then, uh, we made it up to Copper Harbor, uh, I don't know, 5-ish, whatever. Uh, set up camp and just started partying up there. And well, Chad had to race Saturday morning, so he got some miles in at least.

And yeah, I didn't ride at all Saturday. We rode a little bit Sunday [laughs]

This sounds like one of the rides I've gone and like going like, "Hey, I'll be the guy that's actually riding the bike on this bike ride of yours, Dave." [laughs] Did, did you [laughs]... Yeah.
