John Severson, our friend Sevo, has taken over as the US distributor for Singular Cycles. Singular is from over in the UK via Taiwan. They're the maker of the Puffin fat bike.

That's the, that has that eccentric bottom bracket on the Puffin, isn't that right? Yep, I think that's the only fat bike that has an EBB. They also make the Rooster 29+ as well. Great news.

Well, we like to be the first to bring you the newest in fat bike news, and we work hard with manufacturers to help make that happen. The truth is, a lot of our news comes from the interwebs and readers just like you.

For instance, Bike Radar recently had a story about a 20-pound fat bike made with the most exotic materials on the planet.

We've seen a couple of 22-pound production carbon fat bikes lately from the likes of Borealis and 907. Those bikes go for roughly $7,000.

The first thing that I thought when I read this article was I wondered how much those last two pounds cost to reduce.

Well, the price listed in the story was 9,000 bucks, so it looks like about $1,000 a pound in this rarefied atmosphere.

[upbeat rock music] Before the break, we talked a bit about 28-pound fat bikes, which got us to thinking about the relevance of the oldest fat bike still manufactured, the Surly Pugsley, and whether it's still relevant in the era of lightweight carbon bikes and suspension-equipped fatties.

I can attest to the versatility of the Pug. My first bike was a Pugsley, and started out as a single speed, and then became one of the very first Rohloff-equipped fat bikes of its day.

Speaking of Rohloff-equipped fat bikes, Cycle Monkey had a story on their blog recently about a belt drive Rohloff Pug that they just completed.

Hey, did you know that, uh, Cycle Monkey is the only US service center for Rohloff speed hubs? I think I did know that. That's good to know. Good to remind people about that.

I think that still shows that the Pug is a fat bike to consider, and one of the few remaining options for an internally-geared fatty. We love the Pug. We love the Pug.

When we think about the future of fat biking, it's often about the tech and the equipment, but Joe, you may know him as Joe Boo Sacco from the Iron Range up in Minnesota, reminds us that the future of fat biking really has a much more human face.

Uh, was reminded on a recent beach ride about how great the Rail pants are. I've really come to like those pants. They're basically my go-to pair every time I ride.

And, uh, there was, like, a two-foot-deep stream crossing that we had to go through, and it probably wasn't three minutes before my wet legs were a memory. Nice. Memory.
