Otto's, yeah, surrounding the city with good beer. [laughs] Uh, I was a little confused, 'cause I thought, you know, they've got all the ratings up there and I didn't really see who was doing the rating.

Um, this beer rated a 96 at Otto's, which is, you know, gonna be, like, world class at Beer Advocate. However, apparently there are other rating sites out there, and they use ratebeer.com versus Beer Advocate.

So I think we're gonna have to keep an eye on these two different beer rating services, 'cause they're, they're- Into the octagon they go. Right. They're different enough.

The, the scores are different enough where I'd be like, "It's an 86 at Beer Advocate, but a 96 at Rate Beer. Why?" Why? Why? I don't understand.

But I, with the 86 out of 96 clicks on Beer Advocate, and the Rate Beer rated a 96 out of 36. Oh, maybe it's- I was just doing the A squared equals B squared equals C squared. Uh-huh, maybe it's just, uh, uh- [laughs]

... maybe it's just one of those things where the numbers are not there yet. But it seemed like a lot of the beers at Otto's were rated very high. Well, what are you- Well, the beer tastes good. Yeah, it does taste good.

Oh, and I got this beer called Delirium Tremens- Oh... after riding, like, 23 and a half miles of gravel, uh, on my cross check, man. And just actually feel like, uh, my, my cycling legs are coming back.

I think I've heard it's wheel sizes. It, it is, and we know that you've had some experience with some of them. I li- I like wheels. They go round, and I like big wheels to go around. So Julio, this week I said,

I said to somebody within the industry, and they did not agree with me, that a fat bike with 29 plus wheels on it, and it's because I listen to my boy Sven. You know, I'm around Sven a lot.

[laughs] He talks, he talks a lot of smartness in his, in his, you know... Talk about fat bikes.

He says that, "You know, the bike isn't designed for that size wheel, then how can it be the best bike at, at, with a different wheel size on it?"

[laughs] Do you think I've, like, drank the Kool-Aid too soon or, or what? No, I think I, I kinda see your point.

Um, you know, if you can fit the, if you can fit the 29er plus tires in a, in a fat bike frame, that doesn't always work. I'm not gonna really be able to fit it into any standard 29er frame.

Those tires are so much bigger, um, that I think it would really start to impact geometry.

Uh, where if you can stick the 27 fives in, the, the, the B pluses in, those are more in line with the, with the diameter of a, of a fat tire or, or a 26x4.

I think you're gonna, you know, more than likely keep a lot of the handling characteristics where if, if you put that 29 plus in there it's gonna handle, I think, quite a bit differently.

I mean, but, but if, but if you don't wanna buy another bike, then, you know, then you can fit a 29 plus in your fat bike, then it, it kinda gets you there. Um, I've, I've ridden on my 29 plus bike.

I've-- When I first built it up, I ran a pair of normal 29er tires on the bike and- Mm-hmm... while it didn't, it didn't handle bad, it lowered the bottom bracket a bit. Um- Mm-hmm...

and that's not what the frame was designed around, so it handled quite a bit differently than with the, the 29 plus tires that it was meant to run. Um, so I imagine the same thing would hold true with running

29er plus tires on a, on a fat bike. So the 27 plus, you know, seems to be the, like you said, the big Kool-Aid right now.

In some instances, it does make, it does make more sense if I put that on a fat bike since it's closer diameter-wise to the tire, to, to the 26x4 Mm-hmm.

And we were, we were told, "Hey, it's within two millimeters of a 26x4 circumference." So- Very close... or- Right... the 27.5 Very close. Yep. So, but none of us have actually made those measurements.

We haven't tried a B+ tire on a 29+ frame like a Krampus or your Retrotech or Steve's, uh, Gnarvester. We haven't tried even a B+ set of wheels on, on a fat bike, and I know that, that

I was having this discussion whether they're gonna try it, um, 'cause,

you know, I, I urged them to, um- My, m- my guess is, my guess is, and I've thought about this since the 27.5 seems to be kicking off and, and there's a possibility the 20, the 29+ won't, even though there's enough tires out there where I'm not overly concerned about it.

But I, I've thought about, you know, I could easily put a pair of B+ tires on my Retrotech, but it, it's gonna ri- ride similar to when I ran just the normal 29er tires on it. Right. Um. Right.

Which would lower the bottom bracket and it, um, play with the steering a little bit. Yeah. Those pedal strikes and a little more wag in the, in the... Yeah.

Yeah, it didn't, it didn't, it didn't- I, I, I see what you're saying... it didn't, it didn't ride how the bike was designed. Those numbers, those geometry numbers were, were all tweaked for 29+.

Um- So you fall in the same, the same school that Sven is in, that the bike is designed to run one wheel size, and that is what it's going to be the best at. Yeah, most definitely. Well, I think- Most definitely...

I, I partially, I partially agree with that. I partially... I think a fat bike with a 26.4, if, if the 20, if the B+ is truly the same diameter, then

you may not notice the difference besides the, the tire won't be as wide. Um- Right...

but that's not huge A two millimeter difference, you know, you could set your sag, you could set your wheel pressure, your tire pressure- Yeah... enough to lower that enough that you'd never even notice it.

It's not the, the, the huge difference that the 29+ is, where it's a significantly bigger around tire. Uh, so when you're using- Right. Yeah...

that on a bike designed as a fat bike, yeah, you, you're gonna get, you know, some of the, some of the p- pros of it, but the cons of it are the bike wasn't designed for that large a wheel.

But, you know, go back to that for a second, Colin, 'cause making the frames compatible isn't the, it's not the issue to make the tires fit.

The issue is to make the outer diameter of the tire close enough that it's not gonna change the geometry significantly when you swap widths of tire. So, you know- Well, yeah...

I mean, the, solving the problem of fitting the tires on is an easy problem to solve, but is that, you know, trying to do a one size fits all bike, I, it just, I, I haven't noticed it working when I put a, a, a 29+ tire on a d- bike that was designed for a four-inch fat bike tire.

It's, it changes it pretty significantly, at least for me. Right. That's why we're going from a B+ to a 29, 'cause the outer diameter is very similar. Right.

For, and you're talking just a standard 29 or not a 29+, right? Right. Ah, right. A 29+ would be comparable to a 4.8 tire. Right. Right. Right. Yep. Now we're on the same page.

Now a lot of people know about auto steer, well these, these tires are actually auto brak, so- [laughs] I, one of the- Ah. What, what do you think about the rolling, uh, rolling resistance versus the, the Nard?

I don't know, or I, I don't know whether I can compare it to the Nard fairly, but all I know is that it is not as hard to push this tire as I thought it would be.

Those ramped knobs, and I mounted both of them kind of intuitively the way that I would run any 29er or fat bike tire with not necessarily the things set up for the ultimate climbing traction, 'cause contact pitch, patch is so big that you don't really need that.

So the ramps are set up to roll easy. Rolls very much easier than you think it would when you look at how aggressive the knobs are on the tire because of those ramped knobs. And, uh, this is a single track tire, man.
