Weekly Dose of Fat, show number 75 for Friday, October 9th, 2015.
0:07
[upbeat rock music] Recorded in front of a live studio ostrich at The Nut Factory Studios in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it's the Weekly Dose of Fat.
0:33
And here to introduce you to the latest dance craze- The Farkle... are your freaky Farklers, Sven and Gomez. Farkle McBride. What's up, cats? Let's all Farkle- On fat bikes.
0:48
[laughs] And of course, joining us once again is the far fancier Farkler, Mr. JK Livin. Farkle you and Farkle you. [laughs] Fat Bike Radio and the Weekly Dose of Fat is sponsored by Surly.
1:03
There's 1,001 uses for the Surly Junk Strap. See what you can tie down at surlybikes.com. All right, JK, what's happening on this evening's show? We welcome this week's special guest- Or morning...
1:18
Scott Chambers from Great Lakes Fat Bike Race Series. We'll take calls from our listeners to ask Sven and Gomez anything. Fat and plus bike news in the Fatty Farm Field Report.
1:33
We may hear from our fatbassadors to Slovenia sporting provocative European swimwear. [whistles] Sploosh. And this just in, dun-dun-dun dun-dun-dun, from the New York news desk, we will have links by the end of the show.
1:53
Making a return engagement from our one-year anniversary show [bell ringing] we have Anti-Hero IPA from Revolution Brewing. Anti-Hero.
2:03
Our, uh, our a- I found- Our amigo, Evan, I met him and, uh, brought him a rack for him to test. Rack of what? I'll have some of that. Oh, this is good. And he handed off, uh, all kinds of treats.
2:19
That's a- So cheers to Evan. Cheers to Evan. Cheers, Evan. This is awesome stuff. I think I remember this from our one-year- Yeah... anniversary show. It was tasty and it had, like, crazy art on the label.
2:30
[laughs] We were down there, we were down there over the border in Illinois for our one-year anniversary show, and we're going back there for our Christmas show this year.
2:40
And we're, we're calling in all of our, uh, ambassadors to fly in at their own expense, of course. [laughs] Speaking of- To join us, uh, you'll have to bring some beer. [laughs] Yeah.
2:52
Speaking of calling ambassadors- Pay for our airfares. Yeah? [laughs] We have one of our ambassadors on the line. No way. Is it Travis? Yeah, way. No, it's the other, it's your other friend in Alaska. Tepper Becker.
3:05
Tepper. Tepper Becker. What's up, my man? Oh, you know, just living the dream. I've been waiting all week to, to ask you this question. Uh-oh. Like, this has, like, been on my mind. Uh-oh.
3:17
Like, I've been at the sewing machine thinking about Gomez. This one's, this one's probably for Sven. [laughs] All right. Okay. I'm r- I'm ready. I- it's a two, it's a two-parter. All right.
3:29
And it's, it's a situational question. Uh-oh. So when you're at, like, Outer Bike or whatever fest it is- Mm-hmm... and someone shows you the latest, greatest, stupidest thing in fat bikes- Mm-hmm...
3:42
and you have to sit there and bite your tongue and not call them on it, what do you say? What do I say?
3:49
Like, like, if somebody showed me that, that fat- You're like, "Oh my God, that's so interesting," or- Well, like we saw, we did see a tire that was in development stage, and we couldn't say a lot about it except that it's some kind of Italian pastry.
4:01
Right. But I think he's thinking- Yeah, no, I mean, like-... he's talking about- They're, they're showing... Okay. Bad stuff... like, for example, that, that two-wheeled front bicycle fat bike thing last year, remember?
4:12
Right, right. I don't know. I haven't taken it for a ride yet. I really can't form an opinion. [laughs] Well, this is all- Yeah, okay.
4:17
[laughs] This is all I did in, in that instance, is I snuck into the booth as, you know, as much as I can sneak, and I just [laughs] shot the picture, and then I snuck back out without saying anything.
4:28
Uh, I, I look interested. I have a press, you know, I have press credentials on, so they're probably like, "Oh, dude, great. My, my abortion is g- [laughs] is going to get on- Yeah... fatbike.com." Yeah.
4:40
And I'll be honest, those guys are usually the ones with the little laser or barcode reader- Yeah, they-... that are the quickest to try- Yeah, they j-... and blast your badge...
4:47
they try and read you, and then, and then, oh my God, the spam from China is rolling in. But, you know- Well-... I, I am actually a fairly direct person, and, you know, I- Yeah, he is.
5:00
[laughs] So I might actually say, "Wow, that might just make my 10 stupidest things I've ever seen in my life list," directly- Wow... to the person.
5:11
[laughs] So, but then Sven is always there to say, "Oh, he needs a Snickers bar." [laughs] Sure. Yeah, he- "That's just Gomez. Don't worry. He has Tourette's." So, you know- Yeah... he's, he's Mr.
5:25
Smooth, and I'm more like, "Wow, that's stupid." That's 'cause I've had so many stupid ideas in my life that I thought were good that I, I just find it hard to- [laughs]... you know, feel like...
5:34
I feel empathy for them, that it's, uh, it's obviously [laughs] a bad idea, but I'm not gonna be the one to tell you. The market will tell you if it's a good idea or not. Yeah. True that. Right. Absolutely.
5:43
The market speaks. So. But, you know, I- I, I, I hate raining on people's parades. True that. True that.
5:50
It, it, it just irks me when people have fat bike stuff in their booth [laughs] and they say, "Eh, we don't really wanna sell that." That was a good one. Yeah. I was like, "Well- Yeah, yeah. "You, you're serious?
6:01
You just told me you d- You have these tires in your booth, but you don't wanna sell them... we don't want to talk at all. Like, oh, all right. I guess we'll just move on to the next booth then. Fantastic. Buddy.
6:14
So yeah, that's, that's the... So what's the, what's the follow-up question to that? Or just with Turret? Oh, yeah, I'm, uh... You kind of, you kind of touched over it, so it's not worth asking.
6:23
But, uh, yeah, I'm just curious 'cause I get, I get bombarded with questions of like, you know, 'cause I, I kind of am in the industry, too, so, like, people ask me, like, "Oh, this is a great new thing.
6:33
This is what we're doing." And I'm just like, "Oh, that's kind of cool. I don't see where it's gonna work, but congrats. I don't know." [laughs] So I'm just curious how, how you, yeah- Well, you know, it-...
6:44
when you get confronted with stupid, like how you deal with it. I'll ju- I'll just take a product that I saw that I was like, "Meh, I don't think it's a good idea." The rigid- Yeah...
6:54
frame bag, and here's something that is right up your alley. You know? A couple of cats made a, made some prototypes. They're good riders and they're good dudes, right? But they made a, uh- Mm-hmm...
7:09
but they made a rigid aluminum and/or titanium, and I, I said to them, it's like, "Well, I don't see it for the fat bike market, but, like, city bikes and the whole security end of it, I think that-" Right...
7:21
and they also made some really, really nice racks. I was like, "You got real products there. Racks. Everyone needs racks." Yeah. Uh, so that- that's kind of what I said to him, but,
7:34
you know, basically I told them, "Eh, I don't know." Those dudes at, uh, Anchorage there? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah.
7:41
The, the two brothers, and I'm, I'm sorry, dudes, like, I don't remember your last name, but we'll, we'll, we'll shoot a picture of your thing. I just recently saw a cool picture of your three bikes. But,
7:52
uh, uh, Sven, the director over... he's there, is, he's, he's trying to tell me something. I think we have Scott Chambers on the line. Yeah? We're ready for our guest appearance, so Mr. Tup Tup- Well, I'll let you go.
8:04
I'll get off the phone. I appreciate the call. You guys take it easy. And, uh, you take care. Tell Jack-Jack I said that, that he's, like, rad and stuff or whatever the kids are saying these days. Okay.
8:14
Hey, Jack-Jack, Gomez says you're rad, buddy. What? [laughs] Yeah. Jack-Jack wants to know why, but- Yeah. [laughs] Why? [laughs] So creepy. No. [laughs] All right. Take care, guys. Okay, Tupper.
8:30
Hey, Scott, you got Sven and Gomez on the line. Hi, guys. How's it going? So far so good. Yeah. Just, just getting the show rolling and, uh, talking fat bike stuff. Yeah, please welcome to the show Scott Chambers.
8:42
He's the director. I said Director du Sportif. Is that, does that cover it, Scott? Yeah, that covers it all right. Yeah.
8:53
The race director for the Great Lakes Fat Bike Race Series, and it's the 45 NRTH Great Lakes Fat Bike Race Series this year, right? Yeah, that's correct. 45 NRTH is, uh, once again, the title sponsor of the series
9:08
for the winter, and we're really happy about that. Those guys, I mean, of, of any brand out there right now, they're probably the one most squarely and wholly right smack in the middle of fat bike riding.
9:22
[laughs] Yeah, and specifically winter fat bike riding, too. They're really- Oh, yeah... you know, pushing the, the winter end of the fat bike spectrum. I, I think it's safe to say- Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah...
9:32
that they've been the industry leader in fat bike tires since [laughs] they entered the market with the Husqvarana. I think that was the best tire of its time. Yeah, they- And the Dillinger now. Yeah, they are the...
9:44
Yeah, yeah. They are the premium tire. They're the Michelin, really, of the [laughs] fat bike- [laughs]... the fat bike tire. But not quite as rotund as the Michelin Man. Indeed, unless you're in NASCAR.
9:55
[laughs] Is, does Michelin rule in NASCAR? I think it's like Goodyear. No, I think it's Firestone or Goodyear, one of those. But we digress.
10:03
[laughs] We should, we should really talk less about NASCAR and maybe talk about your race series. How would that sound? Sounds good. So, uh, you have, you, you've expanded the, the race series this year.
10:15
Why don't you tell us what's new this year? Well, uh, new this year is the Iron Line Fat Bike Race in Iron County, Michigan. This is the second year that they've held that race.
10:26
It's held in conjunction with a sled dog race- Oh, cool... in Iron County. Mm-hmm. Same weekend. It's really nice when, uh- It's absolutely-...
10:35
when events can, can kind of get a bunch of different kind of things going on and get a big group of people there to check out snowshoeing, and skiing, and fat biking. I think that's a good thing. Yeah, exactly.
10:47
And, um, the, the promoter really is putting on a, what, what they, they view as a family event, too.
10:56
So, you know, not every, you know, not everybody's gonna have a dog sled [laughs] so, um, they, they really are trying to put together a, or really have put together a, a full weekend,
11:08
and it just makes everything bigger and better. And there's also, um, you know, it's also nice because they're, the start finish area that they use for the sled dog race is, is gonna be built up.
11:21
You know, they, they put up big snow walls around the, around that, and it, it'll feel like a really nice event. Oh, cool. Um, maybe something a little different, um, from some of the other events that are in the series.
11:35
You know, it's not part of a ski race, and it's not a standalone race either, so it's a little bit different, but it's gonna fit, fit in really well.
11:46
Um, and I think with the location being right there near the Wisconsin/Michigan border- Mm-hmm...
11:53
it's also located, um, in a good spot, especially for people coming, you know, whether you're coming from the Twin Cities area or from Northern Michigan, um, it's not that far of a drive.
12:07
Yeah, even from Milwaukee and Chicago, that's not that far. Right. So- No, it's not bad at all... you changed, uh, the,
12:16
the series scoring as well to make it a little easier for people to get into the series points race, right? Now you qualify for five races? Yeah.
12:30
Like, uh, yeah, the, in, in the past we've, we only c- we counted your best five- Mm-hmm... but then there were bonus points for every race over that. Mm-hmm.
12:42
Um, this year we're only gonna offer bonus points for two races above the five. Mm-hmm. Um, it, it basically
12:53
makes it easier for people to get out and actually qualify, um, and be competitive in the series without feeling like [laughs] they have to spend three months driving- Right... every weekend to a different state.
13:04
Yeah, so how- So it makes- I'm just gonna say, Scott, how many races are in the total series? It's nine now. It's, it's nine this year.
13:11
It's all eight of, all eight of, events from last year, plus the Iron Line- Gotcha... um, on January 30th. So, um, last year we had, I think we had one pers- one or two people do all eight races. Mm-hmm.
13:27
And a, a number of people did seven, and, uh, I, you know, I really g- [laughs] give them a lot of credit. That was a hell of a lot of, uh, travel.
13:36
But, um, I, from the beginning four or five years ago, I wanted to make the series big enough, um, so that within the region here, people living in one state didn't feel like they had to
13:53
do, do for instance what you have to do with the NUE series in the summer, which is a national endurance racing series- Mm-hmm... and fly everywhere- Sure... um, to try to get as many possible races in.
14:06
So I think this, I think it's a, it's gonna make it, um, actually more competitive, um, because there's nine events.
14:14
You're really gonna have to think, you know, if you're gonna try to go for an overall podium spot, one of the top five spots for the men or women, you're gonna have to think about, you know, which races you wanna do.
14:24
Right. And, um, there's some heavy duty races in there, [laughs] Absolutely... in the series. The- You know, I've d-... the 906 race in Marquette is- Right... a killer race.
14:36
Um- And there's a, uh, there's a regional fat bike trail summit at that race this year. Yeah, with QBP and, uh- Yeah... doing the, like, three-part series for the, the Fat Bike Summit this year.
14:47
I think that's an awesome idea. Yeah, yeah. The, um, Marquette's a fantastic place to hold something like that, too. The, um, you know, you guys have been there, uh- Yeah, the grooming is-... many people have-...
15:01
unbelievable there... it's just, yeah, it's just crazy. They've got some of the best custom made grooming rigs, and the trail is, is, uh, built,
15:12
um, specifically to be able to accept those groomers so that they can get a nice clean, um, path through every time it snows [laughs] and it snows, like, every day. Yeah, yeah.
15:26
So if, if, uh, if someone was thinking about becoming a, a Great Lakes racer, what advice would you have for them to get started in fat bike racing?
15:40
Well, I would just say go out, you know, if, if you've never done any of these events, maybe, maybe you've done, like, a smaller grassroots event, just go out and have fun. I don't think that the
15:55
fat bike racing scene has the same kind of, um, kind of uptight feel that some of the warmer weather cycling scenes do. It's still a small growing,
16:08
um, community of people, and I think it's a lot, there's a lot more camaraderie, and people are- I agree... a lot more laid back. Sure. I agree. It's still competitive.
16:17
I mean, I know these, these men and women that are doing these, the series, there's some pro riders.
16:23
But, um, you know, w- you go, if you go do a USAC race in the summer, you know, like one of the national series races, you don't line up next to a pro rider. [laughs] Mm, sure. Unless you have a pro license. Right.
16:37
You know? You don't get to ride with them at the same time, and that's what's different about these races.
16:42
Um, you know, I, I, I don't think people should worry about having to feel like they're, you know, too slow or not competitive or don't know what they're doing,
16:51
which I think everyone does at first when they first, they first do a race.
16:56
These, these events for the most part are, are very doable even if they're on the longer side like the, uh, Frozen 40 in Minneapolis, which is, you know, a g- 40 mile race. Right.
17:07
Um, they're, they're on courses that people, uh, who have fat bikes who've been out riding them can, can handle and have a good time, and for the most part, all the events have a pretty nice scene as well.
17:20
Um, you know, the 906 Polar Roll up in Marquette, there's a big party afterwards. Well, that's the one I'm going to. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
17:30
I think I am gonna head up to Marquette and, uh- Yeah, I think we, we probably will both be up for that one... and spend a week up there.
17:36
[laughs] Um- Yeah, we, uh, here in Grand Rapids with Farm, the Farmhand Fat Bike Race. I really wanna go to that.
17:43
We're sponsored by a brewery, so we have beer after the race at the ski lodge where we're, where we hel- ho- hold the race. Um, the folks at the Solstice Chase, which is in December, it's the kickoff race. Mm-hmm.
17:56
Um, they, they have a great facility there, a big barn. Everybody kinda hangs out afterwards. It's a lot of fun. So it's not just about, you know, hammering on your bike. And, uh, being a race weenie,
18:11
it's also about hanging out with good people and enjoying the winter. Cool. Yeah. Excellent. You'd, uh, you'd mentioned before that 45 North is the title sponsor. Yep.
18:22
What, uh, which race is closest to the 45th parallel? [laughs] Uh, boy, I would probably say- Or is it whatever? I wouldn't know my geography, but you know what I'm talking about. [laughs] I... Yeah, I'd...
18:35
You know, I might get in trouble, but I bet it's probably gonna be the Fat Chance race at Crystal Mountain, which is just south of it. Okay.
18:47
Um- Yeah, it kinda cuts right through the middle of the, the race area all the way across. Yeah, yeah, c- uh, 'cause the 40- the... I'm, I'm trying to picture it in my head. That's probably the closest one.
19:02
Sven went all geographic on us there. [laughs] And, uh, folks can get the, can look at the schedule, and we'll put a link in our show notes, but it's greatlakesfatbikeraceseries.com, right? No, it's- [laughs]...
19:19
greatlakesfatbikeseries.com. That's it. Greatlakesfatbikeseries.com. So we'll have that in show notes. Yeah, if you do- You'll just be able to click it...
19:27
if you do any kind of Google search for any variation of that, it pops right up. Right on. Um, on, online. But we'll have the link so they, they can get it. Yeah. I already have you bookmarked, brother.
19:39
So you, uh, you do a great job on, on these races. These are the quality great races in the Great Lakes area, so visit this site and get registered early. Get ready to have some fun. Scott said the magic word.
19:54
He said- Party... "Go have fun." So we like that. So thanks for being on the show, my man. You bet. Yeah, thanks for, uh, having me. Thanks for inviting me. You know, be- I hope to see you guys soon. Sure.
20:07
Before you go, Scott, it, it, the question of the week this week is you can ask Sven and Gomez anything. Ay caramba. Is there anything you wanna ask Sven and/or Gomez? Uh, favorite beer.
20:22
My favorite beer right now is, uh, ginger ale or Diet Stewart's Root Beer 'cause [laughs] I'm- Diet ginger beer... 'cause I'm dieting, and, uh, I'm off, I'm off the sauce. But Sven, you can chime in.
20:36
I am, I am gonna say this Anti-Hero that, uh, Evan sent us today is definitely on my top list beer right now. Yeah, this is awesome stuff. Yep. I'm, I'm- This is my favorite beer of the past 20 minutes.
20:50
[laughs] 20 minutes. [laughs] From Revolution Brewing down there in Chicago. Yeah. It's, uh, it's a very hoppy- Oh, nice... uh, sweet, uh, awesome...
20:59
Got good art on the can, and it comes in cans, which is good for biking. Yeah. The Canada Dry, that's, that's what I'm rocking right now is some Canada Dry. And your pinky is up, too. Diet ginger ale.
21:09
[laughs] My pinky's extended. There you go. [laughs] [laughs] All right, Scott, well, I'm sure we'll see you around the, the Great Lakes this year at these, uh, these events. It's something everybody ought to check out.
21:22
Yeah, for sure. The link will be in the show notes. Yeah, and the kickoff race is December 19, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. All right. Very good. Thanks again, Scott. Thanks, Scott. Take care. All right, guys. Later.
21:35
Hey, that was Scott Chambers from the Great Lakes Fat Bike Race Series. All right. We're gonna be right back with next week's call-in question after a word from our sponsors.

22:15
[upbeat music] You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio. And we are back. About time to, uh, reveal next week's call-in question, I think. Dun, dun, dun.
22:34
Next week's call-in question is flats or clipless pedals in the snow, which is coming up, and why?
22:43
Call in next Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:00 Central to 818-918-2453, and we'll discuss it live and interact. And if you say clipless, we'll probably just be like, "Uh, like, what kind of clipless?"
22:58
And if you say studs- "For all"... and we're gonna be like, "Ugh, pshaw. Go, like, Crank Brothers and carry an extra pair 'cause they might break." [laughs] Are we having a Crank Brothers ep- episode again?
23:11
[laughs] Are we having an episode? [laughs] Just having an episode. Just having an episode. And you know what that episode is called? The Fatty Farm Field Report. Chicka pow pow, chicka pow.
23:21
It's like we want it to be the Twilight Zone or The Danger Zone. This week's Fatty Farm Field Report is sponsored by Uncle Nick's Bead Slip. We're one Nick short today.
23:34
Rich, uh, Rich had something better to do than hang out in the studio and play radio. But, uh, you can always check out Uncle Nick's Bike Shop at unclenicksbikeshop.com. That bead slip, I brought some home last week.
23:47
I haven't been able to use it yet, but when I do, I'm gonna have a full report. We'll have a full team report. Team report. [humming] So speaking of our team, Mr.
23:58
Jeff Price, our, uh, UK bureau chief, he tweeted a question, the question of the week, and, uh, you know, it was ask us anything.
24:07
He said, "Do we have plans for riding in the UK, uh, Fat Fourth by any chance, or riding with moi within North Wales or- Mwa- mwabbing him Mwabbing Mwa Mwabbing Mwa, mwa Mwabbing Jeff Price apparently is,
24:24
is a French Welshman. Bro, it's the fresh one. Well, I think it's no secret that we'd love to go over there. Yeah, I- K- kinda making it happen somehow and- I know. Maybe we can, uh- Go on world tour. Yeah.
24:38
We sell out Wembley. Wembley. If you could sell out Wembley Stadium for us, we'll be sure to come- [laughs]... to your sm- little part of the world. Maybe we'll just, we won't pack clothes.
24:49
We'll just fill our suitcases with T-shirts, and we'll sell them to people and smell bad. [laughs] Yeah, we could do a, sell T-shirts across Europe, 'cause it's kind of expensive to ship them over there.
25:01
So- How, how many shirts would we have to ship to Europe to pay for our trip? It's really not that many. Yeah, probably. Like, a couple thousand probably. Yeah. Well,
25:09
Jeff, if you're looking for somebody to camp in your backyard, I might be your Huckleberry. I'm thinking, uh, thinking maybe trying to get there somehow August.
25:21
I want Ward, you're listening Ward, to come with, and we're gonna go ride with Bruce, and then maybe go to Eurobike, and then jump on the plane with the Stones, Mick [laughs] and the boys.
25:35
Hey, we got a Jim Huber in the, in the studio. Um, it's his birthday today. Tomorrow, technically. Really? I th- I was, I was pretending that today was Friday.
25:49
[laughs] But it's his birthday yesterday, since this will be recorded [laughs] Since it'll be announced on Friday. You have to, you have to think like a fucking as- astronaut to run this show. Yeah, pretty much.
26:01
It's like the beginning, yeah, it's the beginning of Planet of the Apes. You're going forward and backward and... So your answer is yes, affirmative.
26:09
[laughs] We are going to the UK, and there's no way you can stop us unless [laughs] you don't send money. No. That's the only thing standing in our way. Yep. Speaking of money, a Trek Farley 9.8 is in the hizzy.
26:26
So it's, uh, up there with Erin Howtana, the Cayuna Kid. He's going to, uh, he's going to ride that bike, full carbon, everything, 2016 awesomeness, straight out of the Trek Skunkworks in Waterloo.
26:43
And, uh, when I talked to Travis at Trek, he was out in southern Utah at a photo shoot, shooting
26:51
lifestyles of their fat bike line in sand and in the Southwest because of their, uh, incredible interest in sales in fat bikes in the Sun Belt.
27:04
How about that for some, uh, you know, four season fat bike power to the people, man. Fat bike power to the people. Four seasons. I'm gonna hold my can up, 'cause it's got the fist right on there.
27:14
I'm gonna hold my can up, 'cause it has a crown and- And hop zombie on the side... all of Canada on it. Anyway. Yeah, so. [laughs] Yeah. So you guys, uh, Urban Cross with Chris Zito, who was on the show. Right.
27:26
He was on the show last week and gave us a little heads-up on the Urban Jungle Cross 3.
27:32
And when we talked to Chris last week, if I remember correctly, he was saying, "Oh, yeah, this is kind of a narrow bar, cross bike course here. Those guys are gonna blah, blah, blah." Guess- Yeah, yeah.
27:41
There was something about the, the, the bars... the width of the bars- Yeah, yeah... and some other things. Well, guess what? Fat bikes dominated. Oh, yeah. [laughs] And did some fun dancing arounds. Yeah.
27:53
Uh, Pat, Pat Smage, our, uh, fat bike ambassador friend, did a number on the course.
27:59
And, and there's a lot of spots where you really, if you were on a cross bike, um, any bike for anybody but Pat Smage [laughs] probably- [laughs]...
28:06
you were, uh, you had to k- shoulder your bike, but Pat rode the whole course. There were spots on the course where you go, "How'd that guy ride that thing?" Yeah, yeah. Well, he did.
28:15
And there was another probably five guys that were doing some similar things in sim- some areas, maybe not quite as badass, but guys are, like, riding the whole course, and most of them were doing it on fat bikes. Cool.
28:28
And Pat's a, a fat back ambassador. He was riding- Didn't I say that, fat back ambassador? Uh, it was close. [laughs] What'd I say? Fat bike, I think. Same thing. No, fat back ambassador.
28:39
[laughs] Um, and he was riding a, a Corvus, 'cause I guess he hasn't got his, his Skookum yet. We did talk Skookum a little bit, though. Yeah.
28:46
I said, "You know, I know you, I know you're one of the few, precious few that got to ride that Skookum out there, and what do you think?" He goes, "That's right up my alley." Yeah. Pretty much. Yeah.
28:54
He had said that that was the best bike he had ever ridden. [laughs] Yeah. Very cool. Did you ask him what color he's getting? Nope. Oh, man. The white and black one, man, that is badass. Bad scooter.
29:07
You know what was badass? What? Me doing the beer handups. [laughs] That was pretty badass. I was do- I was doing it pretty... I got in a rhythm. Took me about a half hour.
29:15
And how many, how many of the beers you were supposed to be handing up actually did you partake of? [laughs] I had my own. I, I, honestly I did. I had- I had one pile here- Just in case... and one pile there...
29:24
I was like, uh, da, da- The morphosetic laws... no, 'cause it was a half- The morphosetic laws... it was a half can and a half, uh, half can and a half cup. Right. So handing them off.
29:33
And but man, I was in ballet pirouette mode. Boom, I did a backhand once, but then I also kinda crouched somebody. [laughs] Yeah. 'Cause I was trying to not drop it.
29:44
I kinda thought that they had it set up in an interesting spot, right where you're at, like, the fastest part of the course.
29:49
[laughs] It's like, a hand up maybe could be at the top of a hill where you're going a little slower. Yeah. It should be- 'Cause people were coming in hot, and I was dancing. It, it should be, uh- I was like-...
29:58
somewhere in a twisty or somewhere where it's really hard, where somebody, you know, that needs a beer might stop and be like- I made it, I made it happen... "Oi, I need a beer."
30:09
Yeah, nobody skidded in and just, you know, laid it on the side and just brapped back up and went out of there, but there was some good- Some good, uh, dexterity on the cyclists' part.
30:20
I'm not so sure about the hand-upper part. Uh, I, I think it's- The hand-uppees were quite dextrous... I was, it was, it was, it was a 70/30, 70/30. I had to, I think. So yeah, that was a fun event.
30:29
Um, he's gonna do another one on the Saturday right after Thanksgiving. Yes. Which will be, you know, if you're in the area, we had a good turnout for this one. I think it's something if you are around, you should do it.
30:40
It's mucho funo. And you know what else just announced their date? Dun, dun, dun. Dun, dun, dun, dun. Santas. Santas and Krampus'. Uh. Santa Rampage. Santa Rampage. Wow, it's getting earlier every year.
30:55
Is that the same day as Frost Bike? [laughs] Yeah? No, just kidding. Is that the same day as global- No... uh, Fat Bike Revolution Day? Fat Bike Day. It's a, it's a Saturday. I think so. I think it's the same day.
31:07
Yeah, I think that was the same one as last year. I think, didn't that happen last time we did the- I think it was two years ago when it was, like, actually in, uh, November.
31:14
And now it's sort of been - Oh, it's also been later in December, which is even better, so. Yeah, that's, yeah, that's right. But anyway, so that's 12/5/2015, Santa Rampage. That's some fun skees.
31:24
But also Global Fat Bike Day, so. So you could kill two birds with one stone. You could get two birds stoned with one whatever. Fat. Fat bike. How does Ricky talk again? I don't remember.
31:35
[laughs] He can get two birds stoned with one something. You can go off to fuckity off land. [laughs] Oh, speaking of places really far away.
31:48
I saw on Joe Wu's site that the second annual Northland Fat Bike rally date has been set for March 16th, 2016 up there in Bemidji, Minnesota. Bemidji. So our, our dance card's already getting full. I like to rally.
32:03
I like a- I like a good rally. I like to rally. [laughs] I can party. [laughs] 'Cause rally just means party. [laughs] Bike party. Bike party. Top of the hill.
32:16
By the way, boys and girls, it's time to have a beer and post your rides, races, gatherings, demos, et cetera on our event calendar.
32:27
We're gonna put a link right in the show notes, so you just click on that link, put it in there, brapada-brap, tapada-tap, wordy words, and next thing you know, your, uh, your
32:39
event is approved by Sven or I, or other unnamed admins. We wish. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. I think the important thing here is this is pretty easy to do, and it's up to you to get it up there. Uh,
32:55
we just, uh, made it easy, so go ahead and list your event. Yeah. People's dance cards fill up quickly. You know, it's already freaking October here.
33:05
When do we do the, uh, the backwards dance for the, uh, daylight savings time? Uh, it is just, it's- Beep, beep, beep, beep... just before Thanksgiving now. Wow, it's gonna be dark at, in the morning for a long time.
33:16
Yeah, for sures. But that's, uh, you know, that just recently w- got extended. George W. Bush did that. GW. Just need a good light. So he, so he could go mountain biking after work. [laughs] Yeah, well, good on George.
33:29
Exactly. Mm. Now you know what we're into. [laughs] I have no idea. Now you see, now you see what you made me go and do. Now we got fat bike links. We's got some links. What do you know about these here links?
33:45
I know Short's Brewing makes some delicious beer, and, uh, that's up Traverse City way up there in the tall part of the mitten up north there. Uh, so they got a, that's another Michigan race series. Michigan-
34:00
Hotbed of fat biking... yeah, it's, it's, uh, it's like it snows there a lot and stuff. Right. Well, let's, uh- I caught the name, The, like, The Beard of Zeus.
34:09
[laughs] And it w- it was weird because I w- I was looking at it, and I was, like, not reading all the letters correctly. Mm-hmm. 'Cause I saw Crystal, and then I saw Timber Ridge.
34:21
Crystal Mountain, Timber Ridge, but I'm thinking Crystal Ridge, and I'm thinking that's- Oh, yeah... the old Crystal Ridge- Right. Sure... in southeastern Wisconsin. Right. And- But it's not...
34:32
it's not there anymore [laughs] is the problem. I'm like, what kind of s- [laughs] It's a bad link that you put up there, Gomez. [laughs] Fat Gomez. Okay. Yeah, and then the, this Fat Bike France link. Let's go.
34:46
I didn't really know how to say it, but it's women in France camping and riding fat bikes, and has beautiful photography. Awesome pictures. Uh, and, uh... Uh, and apparently Sven wishes me peace. [laughs] Peace.
35:00
No, I'm just saying we've got a couple callers we can kind of- Oh, we've got some callers... we can kind of stuff them right in the middle of the links here, and, uh. All right.
35:06
Let's, I'm ready t- I'm ready to answer any question. Like pigs in a blanket. Pigs in a blanket. Let's, let's get some. Welcome caller. Who do we have on the line? Hey, this is Brad from California. Brad Boston.
35:19
California, man. Right on. From- Brad's our new, uh, our new fat ambassador to the, the Northern California highlands. What would w- we call the dope growing areas?
35:33
[laughs] Is that a, is that, is that up there by Grass Valley kind of, or what? It's further north. Okay. Actually in Sacramento. Oh, right on. Oh, well.
35:44
I, I was a South Bay guy myself for eight years over there in Santa Cruz and San Jose area. Yeah, I spent some time down in, uh, San Diego. That was nice. That's way south.
35:55
That, that's, that's a whole nother state down there. Aren't they trying to steal your water and all sorts of stuff? Yes. [laughs] Yes. [laughs] In that part Old Mexico.
36:06
[laughs] Anyway, so dudes, welcome to the la familia de las, uh, bicis gordas. Oh, thank you. I'm, uh, actually pretty happy to be- On with you guys.
36:19
It's been pretty cool listening to you and I saw your post the other day and I'm like, "Okay, cool. Let's try it." All right, we found our one fan. Yeah. [laughs] What are we gonna do now?
36:29
Now that you're, now that you're part of the radio staff, we're gonna have to find [laughs] somebody else to listen. One of us, one of us. That's it.
36:38
We will- My buddy Fred actually got me into fat bike and he's here too right now. Oh, cool. So he got, got me into listening to you guys also. Oh. So he's a new fan. So he's torturing somebody else. Very nice. Exactly.
36:52
So then now the torch has been passed to you. You have to [laughs] find some sucker. [laughs] We didn't tell you about that part about being the ambassador. So, uh, tell us, you are in Sacramento.
37:05
You're gonna have the North American Hand-Built Bicycle Show coming right in your lap in February. Yeah. What else, what else is going down in the fat bike scene there in Central Cali? Not much. Not up here.
37:19
A lot of the people up here still think fat bikes are fads and just don't understand it. Well, you're there to set them straight. Yeah. Do you- I'm working on it.
37:28
[laughs] There's a lot of looks when we're riding our bike around. How far are you guys from Chico? You're not that far from there, are you? About a two-hour drive. Oh, that's pretty far.
37:36
I was gonna say, you know, you got a little cluster of Paul Price and crew over there that like to fiddle around on the fat now and again. Yeah. Do you ever get out to the coast and ride beach there in California?
37:48
Not yet. That's one of the trips we're planning on here soon. Can I suggest an area you should go check out so that you can do a little recon?
37:56
'Cause it's an area that I've visited many times, but never on a bike, and I am dying to know what the conditions are like.
38:03
It's in the Lost Coast section, just south of Shelter Cove, going south, you know, past that big mountain range that's right on the coast.
38:10
It just, I re- I remember walking and hiking there and going, "If my memory serves me correctly, this should be a really kick-ass place [laughs] to go." Okay. Yeah. We'll have to check that out. Yeah, Cape Mendocino.
38:22
South of Cape Mendocino and, uh, I think it's, it's, it's an area where nobody really goes. It would be super awesome. We'll, we'll send you a coded mission packet [laughs] with coordinates to check out.
38:33
With a QR scan 0.5 far as all for the implant, the upload. [laughs] I'll send you a disposable camera. John in the monitor, do you have enough? Yeah. [laughs] And a, and a, and a decoder ring too.
38:44
That's just what we use all the time. Just it's, it's just a fashion statement [laughs]. It doesn't actually decode anything. Well, even stints in the [crosstalk] somewhere.
38:51
All right, now we're all talking at the same time, boys and girls. And it's a beautiful mess. [laughs] So, uh, that's, that's your mission, I think, is to go find the Lost Coast.
39:05
It's like the Bermuda Triangle of California. Should you actually survive your mission, call back and we'll, uh, we'll chat about it. Sounds good. All right, dudes. So- Do you have, do you have a question for us?
39:20
I was thinking about that and the only thing I can think of is clipping into your pedals. What do you guys think about that, and how do you ride? I, I ride with flats, um, so I don't clip in.
39:30
I use, uh, 510 shoes of different descriptions that have very sticky soles, but I don't clip in anymore. That's a old football injury taking my ankle out there. I, uh, I just today on my Krampus went back to spuds,
39:46
so clipping in, and, uh, I, I had been about 18 months I think riding strictly flats with 510s with the, with the stealth rubber. Uh, in snow I would be all flats all the time.
40:02
When I gave up r- trying to ride in snow with clipless was when I really started to enjoy riding in snow. Yep. It was getting started
40:11
just, you know, riding in ungroomed snow, and on groomed snow it might be different, but- Well, like in a race or something I could see riding a clipless pedal- Yeah... at the Birkie for instance or, you know.
40:22
But- But for foot warmth, I mean, it [laughs] makes it a lot easier to keep your feet warm when you're riding in winter boots instead of some sort of Frenchman's idea of how an Italian should make a boot. Uh-huh.
40:37
[laughs] Oui, oui. You know? But they do look stylish, those, those cycling winter boots with the clip in and whatnot. Hmm? Uh, I have a buddy who keeps telling me, "You gotta clip in.
40:50
You gotta clip in," and I, uh, I don't know. That's why I was curious. Did you ever, did you come from the BMX side of things or just riding city bikes, or did you ever have clipless pedals in the past?
41:01
I came from, uh, BMX. Then flats are your friend, man. Yeah. So you can J-hop, right? So wham bam, thank you, ma'am. Next question. Yep. [laughs] What kind of fat bikes do you guys ride? Yeah.
41:17
Uh, my buddy's got a Farley. Oh, sweet. And I've got, uh, kind of a cheap generic fat bike. I didn't know anything about it and I didn't wanna put the money down. Now I'm regretting it, so. So you're saving your shekels.
41:32
What's gonna be your, what's on your, uh, your wish list for a fat bike? Probably gonna go with a Pugsley for a initial upgrade. Killer. Not a bad one. Take a look at the Wednesday, too. Yeah.
41:44
'Cause it, it depends on what kind of rider you are, but that is gonna be- Right, both of them, for sure... especially in your area. You know? Yeah.
41:50
Depends on what kind of riding you're doing, but I think that's gonna be- I'm not super aggressive. I've, I like to cruise, I like to ride. I don't want anything super aggressive. That's not my style. Right on.
42:02
Pugsley might be right up your alley. Yeah, absolutely. Still a great bike. I, I, I still lust for a Moonlander, man. I, I rode that bike for two years and I'm sorry I sold it. Ugh.
42:14
[laughs] It's sitting in somebody's garage not being ridden.... repossess it for, for lack of use. It's like, "Well, you paid for it, but you're not using it, so I gotta take it back."
42:23
[laughs] Don't you remember the contract we signed? [laughs] There was, like, little fine print there. [laughs] We can send it out to California. Right, it's like, Sparkle called me- Yeah...
42:33
and he told me you're not riding him. [laughs] I'm gonna have to take him back and ride him for a while. All right, guys. He'll be back. Got anything else? I can't think of anything off the top of my head.
42:46
Well, give us a shout any time you want. We got another caller. We're gonna roll right on down the road. Yeah, call us back, uh, and let us know what you're gonna do for Global Fat Bike Day. That's a big one.
42:56
Wait, wait, say again? 12- 12/5, uh, December 5th, 2015- Yes... is Global Fat Bike Day.
43:02
Try to just get some guys on fat bikes and go out and ride on that day when everybody else around the world's gonna be doing the same thing. And take s- One of the local shop owners here is actually into fat bikes.
43:12
I'll try to get him out. Right on. Get him to- Good... get him to get a few demos out there, and just get a group of people and go out and ride fat bikes and have fun. Yeah. We'll do it.
43:19
'Cause, man, Sven and I talk about it all the time. The thing is the, the whole thing is the ride, man, being on the bike and [laughs] the, that, that's, that's when life is, is good, when you're on that bike, so.
43:36
Outta care of the world. Right on. Absolutely. All right, guys. Give us... We'll talk to you again. All right. Thank you. And now, back to the fabulous link section of the show. But before! [laughs] Before!
43:49
[laughs] Let me just put the brakes on your link talking. [laughs] That was such a, that was such a nice little introduction. We've got a caller on the line again. Who's on the line? Old Bear. Old Bear. [laughs] Hey.
44:04
Hey, Old Bear, I got your email, or your voicemail. I did get that. I don't wanna, I don't wanna talk about your address on the air, but I got that you moved. Yeah, yeah. We're in a retirement community. Right on.
44:18
You're still in Rolla, right? Hmm? You're still in Rolla, but you just- Pardon? Y- you're still in Missouri? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.
44:27
I just wanted to call and say I really enjoyed your coverage with the bike. I really did. I followed it and, uh, it was, it was interesting to see some of the new stuff that's coming out. And s- and that Wednesday...
44:43
Oh, that's a nice bike. Yeah, you like that, huh? Oh. It's a good- Oh, yeah... it's a good bike, I think. It's gonna, it's, it's gonna get a lot of people on fat. That's- It really is... what it's all about.
44:58
So you've been getting out for any rides, my man? I've been out riding as much as I can. That's cool. Then, uh, I, I clipped a tree and I think I... The doctor thinks it tore my rotator cuff. [laughs] Oh, no. Oh, boy.
45:16
Oh. I'd g- I'd get a second opinion. My medicine. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. But, I'm, I'm in a lot of pain. He gave me some medicine for it, so I feel pretty good. [laughs] So. Well, I, I, I- I'll give it some time...
45:30
like to self-medicate, but that's, that's good you got a doctor that looks after your wellbeing. [laughs] Well, self-medication is one thing, but, uh, you know, it's gotta be legalized first. I mean, um, uh- [laughs]...
45:42
we, uh... I've been out riding. I got, I go anywhere now from 16 to 24 miles a day. Wow. Wow, that's... He's, he's making me look like a wimp. Wow. He's, he's more than I ride.
45:56
[laughs] I ride a lot of laps over at Lion's Club mountain bike trails. You got a little 4.2, 4.6, uh, loop of single track through the woods at this park. Mm-hmm. And it's pretty nice. It twists and turns.
46:13
They got berms. I'm learning to ride the berms. I'm, I'm, I'm not a gonzo rider. I'm kind of a laid back, enjoy the nature type thing.
46:22
At 63, you know, you don't, you don't have the spark that you used to have when you were, you know- 53... 40. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. I- 62. [laughs] I, I totally dig what you're saying. Made me think about...
46:35
I, I saw a baby possum last night on my, on my gnome hunt ride. And you had a mushroom- And I s-... or five episode out there. Yeah. I'd, uh, been, uh, seeing some. Man, the mushrooms are just going crazy right now.
46:47
I saw one that was, like, eight inches tall last night, and when I checked it today, [laughs] it was, like, over a foot tall. It's on our Instagram link now. That's some fast grow. They grow in the dark. Yeah.
46:58
Is that right? I, I don't know. Yeah. They, I... Oh, well there you go. Well, yeah. Old Bear knows. Right. It's, what's the, the treat them like a mushroom. They grow in the morning too.
47:06
Keep them in the dark and feed them shit. Yeah. But, you know, the funny thing is, is, like, the trails are dry as all get out right now, and man, when I was at Levis, it was- Oh, yeah... it was like... It was crazy.
47:19
It was, like, bunches of bananas the size of a huge head of a cabbage, like 25 or 30 of these along a section of single track that was just like, "Whoa, I have gone to mushroom planet."
47:31
Yep, there's a lot of them out there. They told me I'd have- Don't eat those mushrooms, kids, unless you know what you're getting into. Where have they been?
47:38
I- If you boil them, does it take all the coolness out of them, or, or poison a lot of them, or whatever? I, I don't know enough about that mushroom to tell you- Yeah... what that was, yeah.
47:48
That's what always freaks me out about seeing that. I know. I want... They, 'cause they look like they'd be delicious. I've got a good story about the mushrooms. Oh, really? Yeah.
47:56
It's, it, uh, we used to, we used, 'cause we used to collect them when we were running this, uh, radio station in the middle of nowhere. We were on 22,000 acres, right smack dab in the middle of it.
48:08
And, uh, we used to run this solar and propane-powered radio station. [laughs] Cool. And, uh, we, we used to- Were you talking, you singing to the can? [laughs] Huh? Were you singing to the can? No. No [laughs]
48:25
Uh, no- They got a can you sing into... singing thing. [laughs] [laughs] What, was it a commercial station or more of a, a, a military or- It, it was, it was a religious station. Okay. That's commercial.
48:39
It was a religious station. God's commercial these days. Hallelujah. We're looking to get a bicycle show on [laughs] on any kind of station. So, you know. Talk about bicycles. Well, I'll tell you what, you know, uh,
48:50
I think we need to have a, a religious thing, you know, where we have somebody get out and preach the, uh, values of fatness. [laughs] Uh-huh. I am the Right Reverend Gomez Lake. Yep, he's the grand pappy. [laughs] Yeah.
49:05
The pathway to- Hey, hey, let me tell you- Yeah, go ahead... I had a little experience, uh, here, here at the center. I met the doctor that oversees everybody. Mm-hmm. And he's an avid cyclist. Well- Oh, really?...
49:18
my fat bike sits in our room. I won't put it outside. I keep it inside. Mm-hmm. And he saw, and I named my fat bike Ri- I named my fat bike Riback after the restaurant. Uh-huh.
49:30
So he saw Riback and he goes, "Wow, that's neat. Where can I get one of these?" So I told him, and he's gonna get one. Oh, cool. Spreading the love, man. Nice. Proselytizing the fat bike goodness. Well- Yes...
49:46
do- Fat bike is goodness... do you have a- Yeah... did you, did you already ask us a question? I think I have old-timers here. [laughs] Old-timers. I think I lost, I think I lost my mind.
49:58
So do you have a question for Sven? Uh, do we, he's just, he's over there. Everybody's asked me a question and I think that he- It's 'cause you're, you're the, the, it's the voice of the show.
50:08
[laughs] A deep, probing voice. You're the, you're the, you're the laugh of the show. Sven, so- That's true. [laughs] Sven, when are you gonna go to Iceland? Ah, good question.
50:16
This is on, on my, uh, on my bucket list for sure. I gave up a trip to Iceland for free- It's true... this year to our buddy, Chris Reichel- [laughs]...
50:26
who's, um, who's helping us out over at fatbike.com, or, uh, no, plusbikes.com. That guy. [laughs] Uh, oh. But Chris, he's in Japan right now- Oh, yeah. See-... listening to our show, I'm sure...
50:36
right, telling us, "Ha ha, I got to go to Iceland." But it, it was just I didn't have a passport and I couldn't get it quickly enough, and he had already been there and had a lot of contacts with people. Oh.
50:45
So I said, "Chris, go ahead and, uh, and, and take that. Take, uh, take one for the team, man. You can go to Iceland." [laughs] But I don't, honestly don't know when somebody's gonna ask me to come back for free.
50:56
[laughs] So. Oh, wow.
50:59
But, you know, there's, um, there's a lot of interest in tourism there, and there's some pretty impressively inexpensive flights out of, like, New York and Ontario, Canada, and a couple other places. So- Oh, wow...
51:11
it's not out of the realm of possibility. I, it's, it's definitely somewhere I would love to go with Spinner Ryerson. There you go. They have no trees there. Oh.
51:18
But they have a lot of thermal, uh, thermal activity, so hot tubs. See, you can go soak in the thermal springs. I'm with ya. All right.
51:26
And the last time I did that was in Wyoming, so I, I, that'll be halfway around the world or a quarter of the way around the world. Something like that. Something like that. They, they have, um,
51:35
in one of, one of the magazines, I don't know, can I mention the name of it? Probably. Probably. Uh, okay, Dirt Rag, they have a really good article. Maurice. Yeah, I love Dirt Rag, man. I love Maurice. I like Dirt Rag.
51:50
One of the good people that's out there. Dirt Rag- Yeah, for sure... Dirt Rag speaks, speaks to all mountain bikers, you know, even our fat tire cousins or skinny tire cousins. Oh, yeah, man. That- You know?
52:02
That's- Yeah, I was a skinny tire cousin for 30 years. [laughs] Yeah. So I hear it. So was I. Yep. But my, my first, my first bike was a clunker and it was
52:14
those newsboy tires, you know, those ones that were about three inches from the land. Sure, yeah. I rode that in the dirt for years, you know. That's the way you do it. So you were saying you saw the story in Dirt Rag.
52:30
Yeah, and it, it covered, covered, it was a, uh, trip sponsored by Lauf. Yep, that's the one that- So it was-... that's the one that Chris went on. That's, that's, that's what we're kinda referring back to. Yep.
52:42
And, uh, they, they did invite a bunch of different, uh, journalist types from around, around the world to be there. And, and fr- and fat bike owners. Co- Fat bike... owners of fat bike companies, that's it.
52:54
[laughs] Right. 'Cause, uh, Greg Minnaar from Fatback was there, JP LaMaire of LaMaire Cycles. JP LaMaire. JP LaMaire. JP LaMaire is everywhere.
53:04
And rep- representing fatbike.com was Chris Reichel, who we sent over there, and he d- Yeah...
53:09
he actually wrote a fabulous piece with beautiful photographs and beautiful- It was one of our, one of our, uh, better, um, better trending pieces for that- Absolutely... time in the year.
53:21
And I don't believe he got officially kicked out of Iceland. Not yet. I think he's gonna go back and work at that, but he is a, uh, just a dynamic whirlwind of awesomeness, that Chris Reichel. He's,
53:35
he's in Ja- I like that... Japan right now. I'd like to go over there and soak in one of their springs. I really would, [laughs] especially when my knees are hurting. [laughs] There you go.
53:47
Well, Sven, Sven didn't really answer the question. Which was, when am I going? [laughs] I don't know. Am I going? Yes, absolutely. All right. Well, there it is. Absolutively. Okay. I have to hop- Well, anyway...
53:58
I, I have to hop to Scotland somehow. It might as well be through Iceland. Oh, there you go. Maybe that's July, we go to- Hey, you guys, you guys still planning on maybe coming down in February?
54:08
It, it's, it's in the back of our minds. Absolutely. And it'll be- Yeah...
54:11
you know, as it gets, as it gets colder here, it's gonna slowly rotate towards the front of our minds, that it might be good for a, a week- Yeah... a week away from.
54:19
But, you know, there's a lot of events up here during the winter, and we're trying to figure out how are we gonna get to the ones we wanna get to, but- In the midst of all that, there's gotta be a time that we can get a little bit of, uh- I'm thinking-...
54:30
Southern hospitality. I'm thinking end of March is, uh- Sure enough... right after the Birkie. Yeah. Post-Birkie jerky turkey. 'Cause events tend to, uh- I, I'd love to go to the Birkie. Well, you should come up.
54:44
That sounds neat. We're thinking, uh- We'll see what- We're, we're thinking of, like, doing a real hoedown, maybe, uh, ride bikes. Mm. And, uh, it's gonna be crazy.
54:53
Well, since both Gomez and I are gonna be up there again this year, maybe the party'll be kickass, 'cause it was pretty good last year, but the year that Gomez set it all up was, was definitely my favorite year.
55:04
I think we're gonna... I think that with 1,000 racers, I think that there's gonna be more than one party this year. Party in my room.
55:12
'Cause I think, I think we'll, w- uh, we probably will- If you go north on 63, past Spooner- Mm-hmm... you get this little town called Springbrook. Yeah. My folks owned a farm near Springbrook. Oh, no way.
55:26
So I know the area. I used to cross-country ski on this farm. Man. So. That's some, some deep knowledge. No doubt. So anyway, I, I better let you guys go. Um- All right, man... I, I gotta k- I
55:44
gotta, gotta go to bed. [laughs] It's getting to be near that time. Well, thanks for calling in, man. You're welcome any time.
55:50
We always appreciate hearing from you, and, uh, hope your new digs are, you know, treating you well. They are. They are. We're gonna- I'll talk to you later. Okay. So long, Old Bear. You guys have a great week. Yep.
56:03
See you, Old Bear. Bye-bye. Bye. All right. Old Bear from down there in Rolla, Missouri just moved his, uh, domicile just right down the street. But- Still, still getting out. He's in the retirement community.
56:17
Still getting out and doing [laughs] 16 to 25 miles a day on the fat bike. That's wild. Yep. I mean, I just, like, dumb into, like, six miles, 6 to 10 just by- Yeah... rolling... commuting. To- Rolling.
56:31
Yeah, just commuting. You know, boom, and that's, uh... I have to go out of my way to get that on, you know? That usually happens when there's an event to get to on the weekends that- Oh, yeah...
56:41
that, that the real, the real, the real miles start to add up. [laughs] So we got a couple more links here. Uh, you know, you can go check 'em out.
56:49
That Death Rider, uh, he had a really cool custom gun rack he built for his, I think it's a Salsa Mukluk- Yeah... probably. Yeah. It's attached to his fork. It looks r- Really cool... really cool. Yeah.
57:01
It, it just looks like something I would fumble with, though. Yeah? Just the way- Is that for your Mad Max episodes? That'd be cool. Well, yeah, yeah.
57:08
Well- I, I, I'd be like, "Oh, wait, I'll be clever and go this way"... one thing he did say- And then I-... on the design of it was that he wanted to make sure he wasn't gonna hit his forehead on it. [laughs] Right.
57:16
[laughs] Like climbing up a hill when you're over the bars. It's like, "I don't want the gun stuck in my cranium, thank you." [laughs] Doink. [laughs] And the story about dog mushing.
57:27
That's our second mention of dog munching. [laughs] Dog munching. [laughs] There goes... Oh, yes. Oh. Completely contained. Good old days. That was- He didn't go- Wow... that was really close...
57:37
well, this is, see, the, the thing about this dog mushing, though, is it's dry land dog mushing. Oh. It's not no snow. Right.
57:43
This is dry land dog mushing with dogs pulling the people on bikes, and the, the pictures that we saw from the event were mostly of mud puddles. [laughs] It just looks like a blast.
57:57
Speedy Claus Dog Derby Dry Land Championships. Yeah. Yeah. Well. Well, that brings us to Bruce. Bruce. Bruce. Bruce. We keep threatening to go over there. Bruce. He's like, "Those guys are never coming."
58:14
No, you know, fully- And then he, and then when we do- We're only in, we're only, we're only in Fulbe once... we're all like, "Hey, I'm here." [laughs] "Here."
58:23
I, you know, I think if we stiff him twice, then he'll be like, "I, I'm sorry, we just don't believe you're coming." Okay, and then- But, and then... No. No, I think, I think that, uh... I mean, what's stopping us?
58:37
Just cash dollars. [laughs] Cash on the barrelhead. I know. Can we do a GoFundMe for that? For that? Yes. Fund, fund us coming over to... Yeah. But yeah. That'd be kind of cool, yeah.
58:46
If we could get like $1.98- I know... that, that's gonna help our trip up. I don't think, I don't think people would be like, "Oh, yeah, let's send those two jokers over there."
58:52
Well, maybe they wanna get us out of this country. Maybe. I- Maybe that's the whole thing is like, "We won't do a show. We won't come into your ear holes for a whole month if you send us to Scotland."
59:02
[laughs] And then they can- They can't quit us, but they can make us quit ourselves. [laughs] Ah! Well. Tens of cents- It's time to say-... donated...
59:12
